Chancery Court Hotel Bloomsbury - Typical Reviews

"Not part of the Marriott chain anymore, but nothing has changed. Still great rooms and service. The hotel looks like a small Palace. Short walking distance to Westend and major shopping. Our hotel in the last five times in London-would not try anything else. "

"Perfect location for exploring London, the courtyard setting is tranquil despite the central location. Hotel is high quality with good facilities and the bedrooms are reasonably big, if a little underwhelming for a 5* hotel. Breakfast is excellent if you have a B&B rate; but at £26, you'll go to Costa or Pret if you're room only. Gym is small but has good equipment "

"We stayed on a Saturday night to enjoy a performance at the Royal Opera House and the hotel is very convenient for that and Covent Garden etc. it is near the Royal Courts and is a very peaceful oasis from the hustle of the busier tourist filled streets nearby. The hotel has a very sophisticated and elegant ambience - the public areas and rooms are beautifully furnished in a traditional but contempory manner. Our bed was huge (deluxe room) and very comfortable. All the room amenities are there which you would expect with excellent bathrobes and toiletries. The staff we encountered were all very pleasant, especially the porters and concierge who are very pleasant. The one area which really let the stay down though was our breakfast. One of the things which really makes a hotel stay for us is a good English breakfast but the quality of the bacon, mushrooms and coffee were just not up to standard. Baked beans were not on offer and although they were brought out after a request and a wait why not just have them there - an essential ingredient! There were no hot plates - all were stone cold and putting bacon and eggs on a cold plate - not a good mix! "

"The staff is a bit formal, but definitely not stuffy, and exemplifies the polite attentiveness that is so English.

The rooms are beautifully appointed and spacious. The bedding is plush and comfortable. The turn-down service (with chocolates) is an added touch. The rooms have good natural light (though not spectacular views). The marble staircase is a highlight--use it a few times instead of the elevator. The concierge lounge is well stocked throughout the day. The inner courtyard is peaceful. The gloved doormen give just the amount of pampering you deserve at this first-class hotel.

The hotel is just around the corner from Holborn station, which has Central line (to carry you to many London sites) and Picadilly line, with direct access to Heathrow airport. I don't take taxis in London because of the expense, and I actually love to ride the tube (being from the western part of the U.S., public transport is quite the anomaly), so Chancery Court's location is central, and any Zone 1 destination is easily accessible from here (and many sites are walkable--if the weather cooperates). Despite the good location, the hotel is very quiet and relaxing."

"I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. The room was massive. The furniture was old fashioned as some have said but I think it was meant to be, invoking the Edwardian era.

Breakfast was great. The situation good for British museum, covent garden and the city. We had a large comfortable bed. Toiletries OK, not fantastic. They might consider upgrading them. Our room was on High Holborn side but very quiet thanks to secondary glazing.- negatives were the cost of WiFi and the CRT TV but I hope they will not change the furniture when they refurbish.

This hotel is a piece of history and they should keep it that way. "
