Cheap Hotel In Covent Garden District of London

Ideal For An Economical Theatre Break - Close To Most West End Theatres

Travelodge Covent Garden
Travelodge Covent Garden

The Travelodge Covent Garden is a very large tower hotel off Drury Lane in the heart of the theatre district in the West End of London. It is one of the very few true budget hotels in this area.

So the Travelodge has a great position for theatre goers, within 10 minutes walk of perhaps the majority of West End theatres clustered around Covent Garden, Leicester Square area.

However if you're expecting a room rate comparable to Travelodges across the rest of the UK, you'll get a shock here. You have to take the word 'budget accommodation' within the context of location.

There are few, if any cheap hotels in this part of London - most are full service four star chain hotels. The Travelodge Covent Garden by comparison is budget but it is still a lot more expensive than the Travelodge properties only a mile awys in and around Kings Cross and Euston..

If you're really lucky and look to book well in advance you may get a special 'saver rate' at the Travelodge Covent Garden. There are physically two Travedge hotels, Travelodge Holborn and Travelodge Covent Garden, situated opposite each other. You may stay in either of the hotels.

Less than a mile away from the Travelodge Covent Garden are much cheaper Travelodges at Euston and Kings Cross. The Travelodges at Kings Cross have a good supply of 'saver rates' several months in advance. We have a dedicated page looking at all Travelodge hotels in Central London.

Travelodge Covent Garden - Typical Reviews

"I stayed at the hotel this week on business for two nights. I was in the main building on High Holborn - not durys lane one- so not refurbished?)

Check in was easy and the staff were very friendly :)I was on the first floor facing the main street....literally above Dominos!

First impressions .......well the walls were black from where the heat from the heater was , there were scuffs all over the walls and the cups in the bathroom had red wine stains - obviously the cleaner had just pushed them aside and not checked they were used! and the desk was sticky----yuck! All these things could be easily resolved so i dont know why the management doesnt get on top of it.

The arrangement of the room was also a bit strange a little mirror by the plugs which was right next to the bed....i dont no how they expect you to use that mirror!.Tv worked but at random points the TV emitted a strange high pitched noise... i wasnt in the room much so didnt mention it to staff! As i was on the first floor noise was an issue... from the traffic outside and people coming and going. Fortunately i am not a light sleeper but i can see how people would have major problems on a weekend/busier time! Next time i would prefer a higher room, I was away from the lift so no noise from that thankfully!

POSITIVE POINTS;constant hot water, the bed was SUPER comfy and the heating worked fantastically ) the staff were lovely!

Location wise I think this is the best travelodge in central London... oxford street/ tube/ Covent garden shops all within 5 minutes walk or less!

Breakfast was great much more choice than i thought including a FULL range of kellogs cerals in the individual boxes, different teas, coffees, yogurts and hot breakfast etc etc!

In short if you get a good price BOOK THIS, as if your in London you wont be in your room much anyway! "

"Stayed here for 3 nights mid January. Great location. Room was on the ground floor in the Drury Lane section. Had obviously had a recent upgrade as the condition was excellent.

Very clean and comfortable bed. Extra pillows, coffee, milk etc freely available. Reception staff very helpful and informative. Bar very reasonably priced for a central london hotel.

We did not eat in the hotel but there is a small cafe on Drury Lane directly under the Travel Lodge which is owned and run by a lovely Turkish family. Breakfast is freshly cooked when ordered and the selection of sandwiches and take away hot food is really extensive.

The hotel is expensive for a Travel Lodge but the location is excellent which helps to balance out the high cost element. If you could get rooms at this location on their reduced rate promotions then that would be the icing on the cake, as they say "

"After many hours of searching for a hotel, I recently booked the travelodge in Covent Garden as part of my boyfriend's birthday present to the theatre. After researching the 'theatrebreak' type packages, I decided to save money and worry and book with the Travelodge - it being a chain I could rely on (i hoped!)

Upon arrival, the hotel looked much better than i'd anticipated - it's a white building block, not the prettiest sight but it's resided alongside lovely London streets with shops and little cafes (great for breakfast if you like to have a lie in!)

The hotel was perfect. Very clean, with a little bar. Our room was a double room and obviously very basic, with the essentials.

We had a little window so it was quite hot, but all in all we were pleased.

I had no issues with broken furniture or dirty bathrooms. We slept soundly and comfortably.

Only issue I could say I had was that one of the staff members (perhaps he was new) told me that the bar closed at 4am... when in actual fact, it closes at 1. I do feel sorry for the bar staff however, the poor people, who had to deal with many many drunken people that particular night! "
