Montana Excel Bed & Breakfast Kings Cross St Pancras is one of many similar cheap bed and breakfast (B&B) hotels clustered together, directly opposite St Pancras and Kings Cross rail stations.

The Kings Cross district is one of the best districts for such cheap bed and breakfast accommodation. Prices are competitive with anywhere in the capital and quality, generally above average. We have a dedicated page to the best cheap bed and breakfast hotels around Kings Cross St Pancras.

Lets be clear, these are not homely houses with a couple of rooms rented out by attentive family owners. These are small simple hotels, with none of the frills. Price is the key overwhelming attraction. The very cheapest rooms are not ensuite, you share the bathroom. The hotels are typically 4 or 5 floors and few will have lifts.

The Montana Excel is typical of the B&B's overlooking a quiet garden square. The Montana Excel is towards the cheaper end of the scale and has a sister hotel the California Hotel in the district.

The Montana Excel offers rooms from singles right through to quads. Montana Excel offers a large breakfast buffet, including freshly cooked full English, cereals and fruit. There is also a takeaway option for those in a hurry.

Reception is open 24 hours. Early morning calls, ironing facilities, hair dryers and daily newspapers are all available from reception.

Montana Excel Bed and Breakfast Hotel Kings Cross - Typical Reviews

"The receptionists were fairly friendly...it was a lot smaller than i had imagined but it was cosy. The rooms only had a shower in the corner. The toilet was in the corridoor outside for eveyone to share, which id never experienced before so that was different. Been 8 month pregnant the toilet was visited a lot during the night so a lot of people must have seen me in my wacky pjs ....there appeared to be a lot of students staying so it was a bit noisy at times. The rooms were fairly small too.

The location of the hotel was near euston and kings cross station and a ten min walk from oxford street. So if you are planning to go for a shopping hol it is ideal. The breakfast was pleasent. nice variety of cereal and a nice little buffet of full breakfast items. "

"This hotel has an excellent location. It is on a quiet street with a park across the street where my kids played. It is a block from the Kings Cross tube station and just across the street from that is the St Pancras station where we caught the train to Calais.

The neighbourhood is full of little restaurants and other convenient shops. The hotel has a nice breakfast. The room was tiny but we had a window looking out on the street. The price was reasonable for London. This hotel is not to be mistaken for another hotel in London called the Montana, a 5 star hotel. Somehow I got to that hotel's website when I was looking up information just before leaving for London. When I got to the Montana Excel I asked, Where is the swimming pool? "

"Good bits

* 24 check in - good for us as we arrived late and left at 6am for Eurostar (too early for breakfast)

* Location - ideal for catching the Eurostar * Clean room, toilet (shared) and shower

* Not too noisy - not on the main road though you are in central London so it's never completely quiet

* First floor room - large window

Not so great

* The big let down was the matress which was really poor quality and needed replacing. There were several uncomfortable springs sticking up.

* Towels / bedding were very tired and although clean were ripped in some places

* Shower in room was not lit - a small cubicle in the corner of the room with no separate lighting so when the shower curtain is drawn you shower in semi darkness.

As long as you don't go expecting much you won't be dissappointed, at the end of the day you get what you pay for and this hotel was ~30% cheaper than the others I looked at in the area. If you are planning on spending very little time at the hotel it certainly does the job as a place to sleep. "

"We found this hotel had everything we needed. The room was smallsh but we were only there to sleep. We had our own shower and a shared toilet with six other rooms. This was no biggie as it was always clean and available when we needed it. Cooked breakfast as well as free wifi and all for 150 pounds for 3 nights. We stayed in about 14 different beds on our travels and this was by far the best value for money. "

"We stayed here for the night before our Eurostar to Brussels - just what we needed. Cheap, large room, shower, tea and coffee, breakfast (although not great, but good toast!). I'd recommend, obviously if you are expecting luxery you would spend more! "

"This is the only hotel that I stayed at in London and I picked it because it was very close to Kings Crossing/ St. Pancras and it was more affordable.

In comparison to the hotels I also stayed at during this trip ( in Italy and France); this hotel was really just OK. You had to walk thorough the shower stall to the bathroom and I was in a basement room with one window that opened to the ground level into an alley. Not a window I would have left open over night but it was very cool while I was there.

The breakfast was good; eggs, beans, tomatoes, toast and so forth. Overall nothing to be impressed with; but if you need an affordable place for a night or two in a good location it works! "

"Room was very small with double bed wardrobe small 14 inch television on table with tea and coffee in room, shower which you walked through for the toilet first time ive seen this. A little pricey but thats what you have to pay in central london overall not bad, train station kings cross and st pancras at bottom of street along with the underground "
