The furthest is Best Western Mornington Hotel Paddington, about 500m from Paddington Station, on Lancaster Gate. This is a very nice location within 100m of Hyde Park and Lancaster Gate underground station.
Its also worth mentioning the Best Western Phoenix Hotel in Bayswater, a hotel with a good reputation and only about a mile from Paddington in Bayswater. We have a dedicated page looking at all the Best Western hotels in Central London.
The Best Western hotels in Paddington fill the middle market, a sector not that well catered for in Paddington.
At the moment there is an almost overwhelming choice of cheap bed and breakfast hotels in Paddington and just as wide a choice of full service 4 star hotels in Paddington.
There are no mid-market no frills chain hotels like Premier Inn, Holiday Inn Express or Travelodge around Paddington though. The Best Western hotels are pretty much the only global mid-market chain hotels in the district. Paddington is dominated by independent hotels in the mid-market sector.
The Best Western Delmere and Mornington can be quite competitively priced in this sector. The Delemere is on Sussex Gardens one of the main hotel strips, a wide tree lined avenue with the hotels set back from the road. This property is only 3 or 4 minutes walk from Paddington Station and many shops and restaurants.
The Best Western Mornington is in a much quieter position yards from Hyde Park. Lancaster Gate Underground is closer than Paddington, just around the corner but Paddington is still very walkable in 6 or 7 minutes.

Best Western Delmere - Typical Reviews
"They gave me initially a small singe person bedroom located on the street side of the hotel. I tried to sleep but although the window was closed, it felt like I was trying to sleep alongside the road. Next to that, the room was very small. My booking stated that I booked a room with a twin or double bed. So I asked for a different room, which was no problem. My new room had two single beds and was very quite except for the noises the old floors made when somebody walked over them.
The hotel has no dinner restaurant, there are however many restaurants near the hotel. So if you want a clean not too expensive hotel and don’t mind eating out. Which is near Paddington station… don’t look any further. "
"My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Delmere. It was our first stop in London. The front desk staff was more than helpful if we had questions about directions, restaurant referrals, tours, etc. Our room was small with two twin beds. The window opened and there was a fan. This was nice because there is no a/c ... not a big deal in September but I think the room would be too hot in the summer months. We were on the 4th floor.
The room was very clean. I would stay again at this time of year. It's a great location. We walked through Kensington garden and Hyde park...beautiful. There are Barclay's bikes for rent in the park for a couple of pounds but we were so frustrated with the automated rental machine we just walked. (as did several others).
Friendly neighborhood, close to many pubs and restaurants. The prices in this area are sometimes 1/2 of what we paid at pubs in other areas. Only one block from Paddington station for the tube. I would recommend this hotel but be wary that it may be hot in the summer with no a/c. "
Best Western Mornington - Typical Reviews
"Paddington Station, the end point of the Heathrow Express train, is a 10-15 minute walk away. The nearest tube station, Lancaster Gate on the Central Line, is a 3-minute walk. I liked the location a lot. The main Oxford Street shopping drag is a few stops away. And Kensington Garden is just a block away. The weather was nice on my last day and I had a very nice walk through the gardens. A 10-minute walk gets you to Queensway, which has a number of supermarkets, telecom shops and other essentials. So while this is not the most glamorous part of town, I found it a very practical choice.
As it was a relatively long stay, I was budget conscious. I chose the no-breakfast rate on the assumption that there would be enough affordable cafes and restaurants in the vicinity. I was right, and never had to eat at the hotel's breakfast restaurant. Tiny little Sheila's Cafe just behind the hotel was my favourite. Also a few doors away is a self-serve launderette: full load for under 5 pounds.
The room itself was fine. I have been in London rooms where you can touch opposite walls with your arms outstretched. By comparison, this one, with a single bed, was almost spacious. Large enough to accommodate a roomy desk, and for a large suitcase to remain open.
Warning: creaky floorboards. When your neighbours walk around, they can sound like they are in the same room. Avoid if you are a light sleeper. It didn't really bother me.
I had a mixed experience with the staff at the front desk. Some were friendly. Others looked perpetually stressed, and gave one the impression that they wished all the guests would just go away. I was particularly miffed with an obviously inexperienced young man I encountered on my last day. I was asking the front desk if they had any broad sticky tape to seal a cardboard box. When I told them that I needed something a couple of inches wide, and not just regular scotchtape, his response was, "You can't be serious." I was not upset that they didn't have what I was looking for – I was just trying my luck – but his response was not quite what you'd expect from service-minded frontline staff, I thought. I was rather taken aback, having just recently visited an Istanbul hotel where the concierge even found me a huge cardboard box that I needed to pack a large fragile item.
Well, this hotel doesn't pretend to be 5-star, so overall I was more than satisfied. Would recommend it, and would consider staying here again. "
"Nice clean room but so small! The bed was wedged into the end of the room with wall on 3 sides of it, so if I wanted to get out of bed in the night I had to climb over my husband and wake him up. The desk and chair were in a poky corner making it impossible to pull out the chair enough to sit at the desk. It looked as if two rooms been divided and felt like half a room.
Breakfast was rather average - tinned fruit? No thanks!
Staff were hit and miss - mostly ok but one over-zealous youngster shouted at us for using the "wrong door" when we were leaving the hotel one evening. This was quite unnerving. We asked for a room on as high a floor as possible but were given one on the first floor. Soundproofing non-existant!
The location was great - close to Paddington station and Hyde Park. "

" Clean rooms.. Location is fantastic - close to Paddington Station and walking distance from Hyde Park..Anything one needs is available just round the corner. Great staff..Check in was in mnutes - Room was clean, everything in place. Internet was fast and very reliable. Breakfast was sumptous - cornflakes, juice, eggs, croissants, bread, hashbrows - very good for vegetarians like me ...
Was pleasantly surprised to find a microwave in the room - very thoughtful and extremely useful.
More than anything else what impressed me was the staff - the front desk, housekeeping, restaurant staff - all of them very polite, caring and service was always with a smile and quick. "
"The smalls room, really shocked me. The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean, and I felt at home. When it rains (which was all the time) I felt so wonderful I really didn't want to leave.
Do not stay at a bed & breakfast it's best to stay at the Shaftesbury, where it's like a B&B but not so intimate or intrusive. Ladies please take your husbands or boyfriends, you will have a romantic time."
