The Cardiff Hotel is on the south side of Norfolk Square with a small park in the square directly opposite. Paddington Station is just 100m away.

Its a big sea change as you exit from the front of Paddington Station with its narrow streets and crowded payments and go around the corner literally yards away into the peaceful Norfolk Square.
On the doorstep of the Cardiff B&B is a row of small shops and restaurants which lead up to the station. These vary from newsagents and fish and chip shops to restaurants, a small supermarket and the Post office by the Quality Crown Hotel.
Norfolk Square itself is full of other Paddington bed and breakfast accommodation. The buildings are terraced 5 or 6 storey town houses, each one almost without exception hosing a small hotel. The Cardiff B&B commands a slight price premium to most of these, the very cheapest are very basic.

The Cardiff Hotel is pretty typical of its type. A 50 bedroom hotel over several floors in a Georgian building with no lifts as well as a basement. Family owned and managed this is not a small cosy Bed and Breakfast where you get personalised attention from attentive hosts. This is run as a small simple hotel.
The market is for people who want a budget room in a central location in London, convenient for Paddington station. Somewhere to sleep overnight get a good start in the morning and somewhere safe to store their luggage.

"This place reminded me of some of the B&Bs I stayed in while in London during the seventies.
If it's luxury you're after, this place isn't for you .... the rooms are a touch old fashioned and very small (we had to close the bathroom door to get into bed) and the stairs to the 3rd floor are a bit of a trial. BUT!!! if you're a tourist, wanting to see London, this is the place to stay. 2 minutes walk to Paddington station. The stop for the tour bus is just around the corner. Restaurants, cafes, medical centre, post office, bank, laundromat, Tescos etc etc, all within very easy walking distance. And Norfolk square is rather pretty and very quiet.
A good, hearty English breakfast was big enough to keep you going most of the day, and they came and asked if you wanted more; or there was a buffet style continental breakfast if that's your preference. The staff were friendly and helpful. This place was very good value for money!!!"
"I stayed here once as the my normal hotel round the corner was full and I needed one more night. being too lazy to do much walking with my pack i left it in reception and wandered around until I found the cardiff virtually next door.the staff were efficient the wifi worked so I was okay..
there's really not much to say it's a room with a roof over your head. the room at the top of 5 flights of stairs was a tiny little sweatbox. but the shower worked and that was good I guess..
breakfast was downstairs and while I'll admit they tried the breakfast was barely edible - my fried egg was so raw it practically had a shell still on it. mind you the toast was good. I guzzled down a cup of tea and went across to Paddington to get breakfast from M&S.
would I stay there again?? maybe in winter I think it would be warm ( it was steaming in summer) and only for one night it's very cramped. with me my backpack in the room there was barely any room to turn around."
"Nice and clean hotel, but a bit worn just 2 minutes from the Underground (Paddington station) located in a nice neighbourhood. The full English breakfast was ok, but not the best, I ever had. Comfortable beds. When the toilet broke, we vere moved to another room at once. Friendly and helpful staff in the reception. I will come back next time, I go to London "
"Location location location that's what they say and that is certainly what this hotel has. Around the corner from Paddington station, walking distance from Hyde Park and therefore Oxford street.
Yes rooms are smaal and in my room no bath but room was cleaned every day, shower was hard and hot and well really, you're only there to sleep as you should be out all day enjoyong London and surrounds.
Free WiFi. staff extremely friendly, we were on the 4th floor, a bit of a hike but also a lot of laughs.
And last but not least, a great pub, The Saywers Arms, across the road. "
