The
hotel is a non-smoking hotel. Patrons who return time after time come
for the comfort and friendliness of the staff, this is not a facility
filled 4 star hotel.
The hotel does discount, but is not comparable to cheap hotels all
around it in Paddington.
The best description is perhaps best told by its customers.
Typical
Customer Reviews
Below are some fairly typical reviews from customers that have stayed
at the Darlington Hyde Park Hotel. They are independent viewpoints
and not necessarily the view of this web site.
"We stayed five nights in midJune at the Darlington Hyde Park
hotel and were very pleased with the entire experience. The hotel
is well located on Sussex Gardens, a hotel-rich area of Westminster;
it is close to Paddington (Heathrow Express) as well as Lancaster
Gardens tube stop and good bus lines. The staff were friendly, especially
the charming breakfast staff! Our second floor room while small had
all the necessities and a comfortable bed. All in all, a fine urban
hotel."
"We booked the "family" room, #17. Which had a double
bed, a single and then a sofa-bed. With our 2 young daughters, this
was perfect. This room was exceptionally large for a european hotel
room. There was space for the children to play on the floor while
we got ready in the morning and before bed. There was also a safe,
small fridge and large double closet. The bathroom was also a decent
size.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Because of the tightened
security after the bombings at the airport in Glasgow. We asked them
to double check security delays and baggage allowance at Heathrow
and they printed out all the relevant pages for us. The breakfast
room staff were excellent and our girls loved the way they served
the hot chocolate in a tea pot. The staff even went along with the
girls pretending they were having a tea party.
It was a very short walk to Paddington station and within easy distance
of restaurants. I would definetely recommend this hotel to families.
It would fit 3 children under 10. However I don't think 2 teenagers
would be able to share the sofa bed.
I booked a couple of months in advance, using a combination of email
and telephone. They had problems with my credit card the week before
our arrival. It had been cloned the month before and I forgot to give
the hotel my new cc number. They were not successful contacting me.
My cell phone was off since I was on vacation... yet they still kept
the room for us. Thank you Darlington!"
"We
stayed at The Darlington Hyde Park in May for 4 nights. It was highly
recommended so we booked it. So glad we did. The staff are extremely
friendly, especially the girls that serve the breakfast. My partner
loved the cooked breakfast, cooked to order. The continental was
also really good. The rooms are roomy and very clean. Bathroom was
spacious enough. It even had a bath, and you need that after walking
around London. Very close to Paddington station, which we used all
the time. Plenty of supermarkets located at the station for all
those extras. I would stay again at the Darlington. Could not recommend
it enough. Fantastic. "
" stayed in a double room - #302 at this hotel for 4 nights
in June 2007. The main purpose of my trip was business.
Location: 2 blocks from Paddington Station. Next to Hyde Park
Room: Good size for London and considering the price. The room was
very clean. Housekeeping was excellent. Carpet and furniture were
in good shape. The bedspread was faded though. The bed was comfortable
- firm but a bit softer - not rock hard like some other European
Hotels. Large closet.
Bathroom: Very small. Clean. Bath & Shower. Basic toiletries
- soap, shampoo, lotion. No robes. 2 Bath Towels, 2 Hand Towels.
If you want a face cloth you must get one from reception at 1 Sterling
each.
NOTE: There is no clock in the room - not on the tv or otherwise.
If you are on a schedule you may want to bring your own travel clock
with you. Even number rooms are off the main road - a bit noisy
but not overly. If you are a light sleep request on the back of
the hotel.
Security: In room safe where you program your own code.
Mini bar - none. But there was a small fridge in room where you
can store your own stuff. Didn't see a grocery store nearby. A few
of those Quick Shop places nearby but perhaps the reception could
point out a grocery store for you.
Internet: Free wireless in the room - some problems in the upper
ffloors but there are some nooks around the hotel that you can use
if it is an issue. You must get the access code from reception.
Breakfast - in the basement room but I did not partake so no comment
Fitness - no gym or fitness room.
TV - several free channels, including CNN and BBC, all in English.
You cannot pay per view for movies, games etc.
Transportation: From London Heathrow you can take the Heathrow Express
which arrives at Paddington Station and then you can walk the 2
blocks to the hotel. Paddington is also on the Circle Line for the
Underground. If you plan on using the Underground a lot during your
stay get an Oyster card as it reduces the cost per ticket. Cabs
- If you can call for a Radio Cab in advance they are about half
the price of a Black Cab that you would hail on the street. Reception
can help you with this.
Staff:
friendly and helpful - the only complaint was when the airline delivered
my lost luggage at 3am they actually called my room instead of waiting
until a more sane time of the morning.
Dining:
There are lots of choices in the area - everything from fast food
to Indian, Greek, Mexican, Steak House, Diners ... The hotel will
give you a restaurant map with a few choices but there are more
around.Post
Office, ATM near Paddington Station.
On
this street there are numerous small hotels - probably all 2 or
3 stars. Main roads and well lit. No problems walking around.
This
is not a fancy hotel. For the price paid, considering it is London,
I would give it 4 stars for tourist and 2.5 stars for business.
I would stay here again for personal but not for business."
