Around Baker Street and along to Great Portland Street you are paying a location premium, there are no really cheap hotels in this area.
As you go north the hotels are really spread out. In the north-west corner of Regents Park is Swiss Cottage with two underground stations Swiss Cottage and Finchley Road. There are often some really good deals, especially at the weekends at the Marriott, Best Western and Holiday Inn Express hotels here. There are frequent direct airport buses from here to Stansted and Luton Airports.

As you go further out you are in residential London, some if it in the Hampstead area is some of the most affluent districts for houses in London. In amongst them and often close to Underground Stations are some good budget hotels, often with car parking.
