Southampton Hotels From The Perspective Of Travellers On Cruises
Southampton is one of three major London ports used for cruises, the others are Harwich and Dover. Each are around 60-70 miles from London itself.
Southampton is the busiest of the three cruise ports with cruises departing and arriving all year.
Because of the volume, four different cruise terminals are used along about 3 kms of the Southampton shoreline.
For people on cruises traveling independently and with a thrifty outlook, there are 4 hotels within easy walking of the bus and train stations. The Premier Inn West Quay, two Ibis hotels and a Novotel. These are in a great position adjacent to Southampton’s regional shopping centre. There is a big Asda (Wal Mart) supermarket here if you want to stock up before your cruise and countless restaurants for all budgets.
The Ibis budget is very cheap and very no frills, though its a brand new hotel and well maintained. Owned by the same company, the Ibis and Novotel are in the same grounds. The Ibis is one step up from the Ibis Budget, a bit more room and facilities. The Novotel is the full service, 4 star grade choice. The Premier Inn West Quay is the UK’s biggets chain, if stars were awarded it would probably be 3 star. Premier Inn has a fine reputation for great value, a lot of British would go nowhere else. Of the global chains the nearest to it would be Holiday Inn Express.
The 5 minute video clip below takes you around the centre of Southampton covering all the main hotel options for people either prior to or after a cruise.
Southampton is not a bad place to stay for a couple of days. As a rail hub you can reach major attractions like Salisbury Cathedral, Bath, Stonehenge and Portsmouth quickly by train and hotels are much cheaper than London.
So, if you are looking for the hotels nearest the train and bus stations for services from and to London just look at the video. The clip also covers which are closest to each cruise terminal, whats in the vicinity, proximity to restaurants and shops including a large supermarket where you can stock up on cheap wine for the cruise!
To supplement the orientation video we have detailed pages on the main London Toolkit web site that go into much more details about comparative room rates and location.
