Southampton
Cruise Terminal To Stonehenge
For the majority of cruises we will be on our way by about
08:30.
The driver/guide will provide a meet and greet service as you exit
customs and stow your luggage in the vehicle.
After introductions, the bus is soon on its way for the 30 minute
journey to Salisbury. The driver/guide will start to explain about
the Neolithic society that built Stonehenge. |
Soon,
we're at Salisbury - a medieval wool city with its icon, Salisbury
Cathedral, dominating the skyline on the approaches to the city.
If you wish, you could choose to visit the Cathedral, perhaps instead
of another location stipulated in this example tour.
Salisbury Cathedral and the Close it is within is impressive and there
is the opportunity to view one of the four copies of the Magna Carta. |

Salisbury Cathedral |
After
Salisbury, the scenic tour begins. We climb out of the Avon valley
past the old Salisbury, (Old Sarum) an old Iron Age Hill Fort.
We quickly descend into the Woodford Valley. We follow the river past
sleepy villages with limestone walls, thatched cottages, riverside
pubs, Norman churches - a taster of what is to come. |
 |
At
Stonehenge the driver/guide will escort you into Stonehenge. An informative
audio tour comes with admission to Stonehenge.
The driver/guide will be available within Stonehenge to answer questions
you may have, take a group photo or demonstrate the ley lines that
converge at Stonehenge |

To Lacock (Lunch Stop)
Most people will take around 45-60 minutes at Stonehenge.
Its around an hours journey to Lacock, our lunch stop. Its a scenically
rich 60 minutes as well. We first cross Salisbury Plain going straight
through a British Army Tank Range before descending through more picturesque
villages. We venture for some part along single track roads, truly
into the countryside.
Photo opportunities abound.
Perhaps we'll see a narrowboat using the canal locks that climb Caen
Hill. on the 2-3 hour ascent or descent, if so we'll stop and watch
the spectacle.
Nearly everyone gets off to picture our favourite thatched cottage
and few can resist the scenic view over Lacock our lunch destination.
Lacock
Lacock is an old wool town where all the buildings in the village
are more than 200 years old. It is not a museum piece, but a living
working village with school, post office, church, tithe barn, bakery
and several pubs. |
