Stonehenge
& Windsor Tour
This template for a private day tour from London is the basis of
one of our most popular custom tours.
Stonehenge
is perhaps the single most popular destination from London on a
day tour. And Windsor,
is not far behind, a great combination.
Both
can be combined at a relatively leisurely place. You'll certainly
have a lot more time at Windsor than any coach tour, with a chance
to savour the old town, perhaps have a coffee, visit Runnymede or
Eton.

Tour
Starting Out / Logistics
The key
aspect of day tours that involve visiting Windsor Castle is its location
on the edge of London near Heathrow Airport, coupled with its opening
times for admission 09:45 to 16:00 (March to October) and 09:45 to
15:00 (November to February) closing 75 minutes after last admission
time.
Windsor is less than an hour from most Central London hotels. You
can of course choose to make it your first or last stop. Stonehenge
is a little over an hour from Windsor and
its under 2 hours between Stonehenge and most Central London hotels

Most
visitors will need two hours to go around Windsor Castle. During the
summer and every other day during the Winter, Changing of the Guard
takes place at Windsor Castle at 11 a.m.
Windsor,
Runnymede & Eton
The 'must see' is obviously Windsor Castle, we recommend that you
allow 2 hours for your visit. Next door to the Castle is the Old Town
where there are several authentic cobbled streets dating from the
17th century. Worth at least 10 minutes of anyone's time. Most people
want to spend a lot, lot longer. You can see more details on our Windsor
pages.
On the other side of the river Thames, quickly reached across a pedestrian
footbridge is Eton. You stroll along a very interesting High Street
to the famous Eton College, England's top private boarding school
where the boys still wear top coats and tails.
Just a couple of miles from Windsor is Runnymede
where the Magna Carta was signed in 1215, just south of Windsor. Today
there are three monuments to be seen. One is of course to commemorate
the Magna Carta. A second, erected in the 60's to remember the assassinated
US president, John F Kennedy. Lastly at the top of the hill is the
Air Forces Memorial.
Stonehenge
Stonehenge is in on top of Salisbury Plain in a very remote location.
Henges, built well before the Pyramids and before the wheel was invented
are peculiar to the British Isles. Stonehenge is the most famous and
one of the best preserved and has several unique features.
Stonehenge certainly can be a mystical place. Most people take around
45 minutes to visit the monument, an audio guide is included in admission.
Our driver/guide will help you supplementing this facility with further
insights, maximising the experience.
