Windsor
is less than an hour from most Central London hotels so you'll get
maximum time 'in the field' with minimal time in the vehicle.
Visit Windsor Castle, England's largest and most historic Royal
residence still lived in by the Queen with magnificent State Apartments,
St. George's Chapel, burial place of Kings and Queens and Queen
Mary's Dolls House exquisitely perfect to the tiniest detail.
Visit Eton - England's famous school where boys are still dressed
in traditional black tail coats.
Visit Runnymede - where King John signed the Magna Carta in 1215.
Windsor and Eton are opposite sides of the River Thames connected
by footbridge, Runnymede is just 2 miles south of Windsor.

Windsor,
Runnymede & Eton
The 'must see' is obviously Windsor Castle, we recommend that you
allow 2 hours for your visit. Most days there is a changing of the
guard ceremony at 11:00.
Next door to the Castle is the Old Town where there are several authentic
cobbled streets dating from the 17th century. Worth at least 10 minutes
of anyone's time. Most people want to spend a lot, lot longer. You
can see more details on our Windsor
pages.
On the other side of the river Thames, quickly reached across a pedestrian
footbridge is Eton. You stroll along a very interesting High Street
to the famous Eton College, England's top private boarding school
where the boys still wear top coats and tails. You can take a tour
if you wish.
River trips are a favourite activity too.
Just a couple of miles from Windsor is Runnymede
where the Magna Carta was signed in 1215, just south of Windsor. Today
there are three monuments to be seen. One is of course to commemorate
the Magna Carta. A second, erected in the 60's to remember the assassinated
US president, John F Kennedy. Lastly at the top of the hill is the
Air Forces Memorial. |
Just
outside Windsor, the Queen's Farm Shop can be visited. Virginia Water
is in Windsor Great Park, a favourite lake and recreation area where
the Queen's gardeners put a lot of effort. On a Sunday there is normally
Polo at Smiths Lawn in the summer.
On the edge of Windsor is also the kids theme park Legoland. |
