Traveling Between Paris & Dover

Details of Independent Travel Between Dover and Central London

Paris Eurostar Train
Paris Eurostar Train

A perhaps surprising number of people come off cruises at Dover wanting to go onto Paris that same day. At perhaps the other end of the scale, those on a very tight budget come from London to Paris via Dover using the ferry across the English Channel.

However it is the Eurostar trains that now dominate travel between London and Dover, and the entrance to the Channel Tunnel through which the Eurostar trains pass is just 15 minutes from Dover at Folkestone, the next town along the coast.

Dover - Paris By Eurostar

Eurostar trains are going to be the solution for 99% of people coming off cruises at Dover.

The only decision to make is where to catch the Eurostar train.

The Eurostar trains use a tunnel across to France only about 10 miles south of Dover. However the trains do not stop often, if at all after leaving London. There is a broadly hourly train from Dover to St Pancras the Eurostar terminus in London using the same tracks as the Eurostar most of the way.

A handful of Eurostar trains do stop at Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International stations. The Dover - London St Pancras trains also stop at Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International. Ashford is quite near Dover, Ebbsfleet is on the outskirts of London so its better if you can change at Ashford.

Use The Trainlne site for trains from Dover Priory to Ashford International and Ebbsfleet schedules and the Eurostar link from the banner below for Eurostar schedules and ticketing.

The worst case scenario is that you end up travelling all the way to London St Pancras only to catch a Eurostar train back along the same track you have just journeyed.

The alternative is to take a ferry from Dover to France and use French trains onto Paris.

Downside is that its around 8 hours in all and there is only one or two services a day. Still you do get the ferry across the English Channel and a view of the famous white cliffs of Dover.
