If you have a very long gap between flights or prefer the idea of
overnighting at a Central London hotel in preference to an airport
hotel, then transferring via Central London is very much an option.
The First Capital
Connect Gatwick Luton train runs between Luton and Gatwick with
many stops in Central London.
Blackfriars and London Bridge are close to the Tower of London and
Tower Bridge, Kings Cross is a major budget hotel district of Central
London.
Alternatively you can take the Gatwick
Express or the Luton
Green Line bus to Victoria, close to Buckingham Palace and Big
Ben and a more upscale hotel area. |

Luggage
There are left luggage offices at Victoria, and Kings Cross (Mainline)
Stations if you want to dump your luggage and do some sightseeing.
Note, First Capital Connect use a physically separate station at Kings
Cross to the Mainline station where the left luggage office is. Its
a five minute walk between the two stations which share the same underground
station.
Accommodation
The stations along the First Capital Connect railway line are mostly
in the City of London, the financial and business area of relatively
little interest to most visitors. What accommodation there is, is
mostly expensive, geared to the needs of the businessman. The notable
exception is the area around the Tower of London and Kings Cross.
If you are on a budget, Kings Cross has some of the best value cheap
accommodation in the central area. Kings Cross used to have an unenviable
reputation but is going through massive rejuvenation that has transformed
the outlook for the district.
The other accommodation option is around the Victoria area of London.
This district is in the heart of the core sightseeing area with Buckingham
Palace, Big Ben, London Eye and Westminster all within 1km.
There are fast, frequent and direct transfers by Gatwick Express train
from Gatwick and Green Line coach from Luton to Victoria.
