If you
have a very long gap between flights or prefer the idea of overnighting
at a Central London hotel in preference to an airport hotel then transferring
via Central London is very much an option.
The Heathrow Express train
runs between Heathrow and Paddington station taking 15 minutes at
a frequency of every 15 minutes.
The Stansted Express
train runs between Stansted and Liverpool Street Stations at similar
frequencies and take about 45 minutes |

There
are left luggage offices at both Paddington and Liverpool Street Stations
if you want to dump your luggage and do some sightseeing.
Paddington and Liverpool Street are connected by the Circle Line,
part of the London
Underground system. Both are in Zone 1 of the system, and are
about 4 miles apart.
It should be emphasised that the direct route between Heathrow and
Stansted is the Heathrow
- Stansted bus shuttle operated by National Express.
The cheapest
route between Heathrow and Stansted is also via central London
using coach and the London Underground. This is much slower and crowded
though substantially cheaper than using the Express train options
assumed here.
Full details of the Heathrow
Express and Stansted
Express including fares are on separate detailed pages.

It makes
sense to seek accommodation around Paddington Station. Liverpool Street
is in the financial district of London, called the square mile. There
is little accommodation in the immediate vicinity of Liverpool Street,
though about 1 km away is the Tower of London. There are some good
hotels
around Tower of London and Tower Bridge.
We have detailed pages on the extensive hotel accommodation around
Paddington Station. |
