Southampton hotels close to the City & Mayflower cruise terminals are conveniently situated between the rail and coach stations at Southampton and the dock gate used for both cruise terminals. There are currently four cruise terminals at Southampton strung along the port area. The City and Mayflower cruise terminals are at the western end of the waterfront accessed from the same dock gate. The other two cruise terminals at Southampton, the Ocean and QE2 cruise terminals are about a mile east .

If you are arriving in Southampton by public transport either train or coach and using either the City or Mayflower Southampton cruise terminal, three hotels stand out as being particularly convenient.
The Ibis Budget (ex ETAP), Ibis and Novotel are all clustered around a square opposite the dock gate used for access to the City and Mayflower cruise terminals. The hotels are a short 5 minute walk from both the train station and National Express coach station. It's also perfectly feasible to walk to the City Cruise Terminal from the hotels, the Mayflower though is a much longer trek, only for the intrepid few.

The three hotels are all owned by the French Accor group.
The Ibis Budget is the ultra no-frills brand and most nights will be the cheapest in accommodation in Southampton city centre. Only built in 2010 this offers modern clean rooms but minimal space, appropriate if all you want from a hotel is somewhere to sleep, wash and brush up and safely secure your luggage.
The Ibis is the next step up, but still a budget hotel but with more space and facilities. The Novotel is a full service hotel complete with indoor pool, fitness centre etc.
Wherever, you stay in the centre of Southampton you will not be that far from the cruise terminals, coach and train stations and the shopping centres of Southampton. Ibis Budget (Etap) Southampton $ - Cheapest
The Ibis Budget hotel is a brand new hotel located next door to the Novotel and Ibis hotels, a cluster of hotels that are the nearest to the train and coach stations.
This is not a run down dump with nothing to offer but a low price, this is a brand spanking new purpose built hotel offering 'no frills' rooms.
If you just want a bed in a modern, clean hotel at lowest cost and somewhere safe for your luggage, this may be for you. There is a McDonalds next door and a large retail park on your doorstep.
Modern, comfortable room that can accommodate up to 3 people (in most countries), with a shower, toilet, and satellite TV. Charge for parking.

Ibis Southampton $$
Within sight of the train and coach stations with the cities major shopping mall opposite. Located next door to the Novotel and Etap hotel, all owned by the Accor group and sharing the same car park and approach road. These three hotels are the closest hotels to both the National Express coach station and the train station. You can easily walk the distance with luggage.
Faces the dock gates for the Mayflower and City Cruise terminals, some people walk to these cruise terminals from the Ibis. A McDonald's is next door and plenty of other restaurants are within a few minutes walk.

Newly opened in 2011, The Premier Inn West Quay is in a wonderful position next to the West Quay shopping centre. Coach and train stations as well as the city centre are within 5 minutes walk.

Right down on the waterfront opposite a large park area where you can watch the activity along the Solent, very pleasant if the weather is kind. This Holiday Inn is one of the older chain hotels in Southampton, but nevertheless seems to be well received.
