The
Globe Theatre is a unique site dedicated to the exploration of Shakespeare's
work.
The venue is famous mostly for the playhouse, recreated as an authentic
replica of the original in Shakespearean London.
Performances are played out as a serious attempt to recreate authentic
Shakespearean works, there is no compromise for the tastes of the
tourist masses.
|
The
plays can last two to three hours and the cheaper admissions are strictly
standing only!. The theatre is open air and is not heated or subject
to air conditioning.
If it rains the performance will normally carry on, the standing audience
are not sheltered. You are not allowed to take photographs of performances.
Tours
There is an exhibition and a theatre tour. The Exhibition
hold no surprises on the subject matter addressed,
a thorough examination of things Shakespearean.

Getting
to the Globe Theatre:
The Globe
Theatre sits on the riverside of the south bank of the River Thames.
The easiest and nicest option is to walk across the Millennium Bridge,
a footbridge from the opposite north bank.
Mansion House is the closest Underground station and St Paul's, a
little further away, gives you a circuit of St Paul's Cathedral before
you cross the bridge. |
 |
What
To Do Around The Globe Theatre:
The Globe Theatre is right next door to the Tate
Modern Art Gallery. On the other side of the river reached by
the Millennium Footbridge is St
Paul's Cathedral.
From the Globe Theatre you can take a pleasant walk along the river
walking eastwards. Your riverside path is full of interest all the
way to Tower Bridge, a highly recommended walk through an atmospheric
part of London.
We have made available a free self guided walk, (outline map below)
that includes the walk to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge from
the Globe Theatre.
