Once across the river, you are in Ferry Road a throwback to the 18th
century when a ferry provided carriage across the river. On your left
is a couple of pubs, on your right a boat shop which also sells confectionery.
Follow Ferry Road for about 150m on the right hand side of the road
until you get to a cross-roads which has traffic lights.
Our way is straight ahead, into Teddington High Street. On the right
hand side is Teddington Parish Church.
What looks like a more imposing church of cathedral proportions on
the opposite side is in fact an Arts Centre. The church was deconsecrated
in the late 70's. The Landmark Arts Centre hosts a constant stream
of events throughout the year.
In front of Landmark Centre is a bus stop, the R68 bus to Hampton
Court stops here. Our walk continues down Teddington High Street.
There is quite a nice village feel to Teddington, you are certainly
spoilt for choice for something to eat or drink.
After about 800m the High Street increases gradient by a busy road
junction. Its not obvious, but the road is bridging the local railway
line. You need to have crossed to the other left hand side of the
road by this time.

To Hampton Court Bus |
Our
route now turns left on the other side of the railway line, down Park
Road.
We follow Park Road for about 800m, passing Teddington Police Station
on our right.
When Park Road bends left at a road junction, follow Park Road round.
On the opposite side of the road is Bushy Park.
The main gate (see picture below) is about 75m further up the road
by a pedestrian crossing.
Bushy Park, a former Royal hunting ground, where herds of deer still
wander at will was the base for General Eisenhower when planning the
D-Day operation in 1944.
In front of you, the long straight road is called Chestnut Avenue.
This mile long avenue was conceived by Sir Christopher Wren as a formal
approach to Hampton Court.
Flanked on both sides by a single row of horse chestnuts and four
rows of limes. Take the grass path which parallels the road. When
you are almost at Hampton Court you come across a large fountain,
called the Diana fountain.
After the fountain its just another 150m to our objective, Hampton
Court Palace.
