Windsor is quite an expensive place for hotel accommodation. At least that was true until the Travelodge and Holiday Inn Express opened their hotels in the last few years. The Travelodge Windsor bang in the centre of Windsor right by the train station and Windsor Castle is in a prime location. Nearly all other accommodation options are in much grander accommodations.

The Mercure Castle Windsor and Harte and Garter hotels are in old coaching inn properties directly opposite the main Windsor Castle gates. The Sir Christopher Wren hotel is down on the River Thames just 5 minutes walk from the castle by Eton Bridge and its stable mate The Christopher over the river in Eton is a similar proposition.
Heathrow Airport An Alternative Hotel Base For Windsor
Very close to Windsor is Heathrow Airport. There are quite good public transport links between Heathrow and Windsor and especially at weekends hotel rates can be very attractive. We have many pages covering in depth Heathrow hotels.
Budget Hotels In Windsor
Windsor Travelodge Central is in the centre of Windsor within the shopping centre called King Edward Court.
The entrance is in a pedestrian precinct of the shopping centre, there is no vehicle drop off point. The only car parking is in the multi storey for the shopping centre.
However for those coming by public transport things are much better. The hotel is just around the corner from the platform of Windsor Central Station a distance of around 100m through the shopping centre.
The hotel is in the heart of Windsor, 3 minutes walk from the entrance of Windsor Castle and the choice of restaurants can be overwhelming.
There is a handy full size Waitrose supermarket next to the Travelodge.

Directly opposite the main entrance to Windsor Castle are two grand old coaching inns, now luxury hotels.
The Harte & Garter and Mercure Windsor Castle certainly have prime position.
Down by the River Thames by Eton Bridge is the Christopher Wren Hotel, another luxury hotel where you can dine with views of the river. Its stablemate, the Christopher Hotel is another historic coaching Inn on the other side of Eton Bridge on Eton High Street.
Travelodge Windsor Consistently the cheapest rooms in Windsor especially if you can get advance purchase saver rates. An A1 position every bit as good as the most expensive hotels in Windsor with Windsor Castle 2 minutes walk.
