There are two railway stations in Windsor, and a choice of railway lines.

On this page we focus on the option from London's Waterloo Station that terminates at Windsor Riverside. The other railway is from London's Paddington station, terminating at Windsor Central Station.

The Waterloo Line option although on paper slower than the line from Paddington, is only so by 15 minutes. If your London accommodation is on the South Bank of the Thames or the Pimlico district of Victoria, overall the Waterloo line may be fastest.

Windsor Train At Riverside Station
Train at Windsor Riverside
Windsor Riverside is as its name implies adjacent to the River Thames close to the Eton Bridge. When you walk out of the front entrance of Riverside Station, Windsor Castle towers above you.

You have to climb a short hill up to Windsor Castle.
You pass a line of restaurants of all types. There is a Starbucks and a McDonalds as well as several bars/pubs near the top of the hill.

The train from Waterloo stops at many stops along the way. Richmond and Vauxhall are interchange stations with the London Underground and Clapham Junction has trains every couple of minutes to Victoria one way and Gatwick Airport the other.

This Windsor Terminus at Riverside is the end of the line, so you can't go wrong. Riverside is a small station with just 2 platforms.

The Road From Windsor Riverside
Arriving At Windsor Castle
If you are not going to Windsor Castle right away, turn right out of the front entrance and you'll come to the River Thames. Turning left here you'll see the bridge across to Eton on the other side of the river, and beyond that the pleasant riverside area of Windsor.
