Left Luggage Facilities At London Airports, Railway / Bus Stations and Hotels
Author: Bob Handford
A common need when visiting London is for a left luggage facility.
In London the broad choices are the specialist luggage facilities at the airports, main railway and bus stations or your hotel.
Your hotel in London is always going to be the cheapest option if they offer a left luggage service that fits your needs.
If not, your choice is not a long one.
The Excess Baggage Company
At Central London Railway Stations & Heathrow/Gatwick Airports
The dominant player in left luggage in London is the Excess Baggage Company. They have a monopoly on left luggage at London\’s major railway stations and London\’s two busiest airports Heathrow and Gatwick.
At Heathrow and Gatwick Airport there is an outlet in the arrivals hall of each terminal.
There are no lockers, it\’s a manned desk service.
At Heathrow, outlets operate open between 5 or 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. At Gatwick the South Terminal outlet is open 24×7 while the North Terminal outlet closes at 9 p.m. A free monorail service connects North and South Terminals at Gatwick.
In London there are Excess Baggage outlets at Paddington, Kings Cross, Euston, St Pancras, Victoria, Liverpool Street, Waterloo and Charing Cross Main Line Railway Stations.
In Central London, Charing Cross Station is the most central at Trafalgar Square. Paddington has airport trains to Heathrow, Victoria to Gatwick Airport, Liverpool Street to Stansted Airport and St Pancras to Luton Airport.
There is a flat fee per 24 hours for each bag irrespective of size. At the airports there is a reduced tariff for leaving luggage less than 4 hours.

Victoria Coach Station
London only has one major long distance bus/coach station at Victoria.
The service offered is very similar to the Excess Baggage Company with manned service and no lockers.
Currently the service is open between 7 a.m. and 10:45 p.m.
Victoria Coach Station is a bit like a regional airport in terms of facilities and is not run down or in an unsafe district. Buckingham Palace is only a 10 minute walk.
Left Luggage charges at Victoria Coach Station are significantly cheaper than the Excess Baggage outlets and there are different 24 hour tariffs for bags under 20kg to those over.
There is also a tariff for under 2 hours.
There are National Express airport buses between Victoria Coach Station and Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Stansted Airports.

Layovers and Late Flights
If you have time to kill at the airport between flights or you have to check out with luggage at midday with an evening flight you can use your time productively rather than just killing time in an airport terminal.
Windsor is just 15 minutes drive from Heathrow. There is a service offered by which you hire a private car or small bus for groups for your transfer to or from Heathrow and spend your time in Windsor. Windsor has much more to offer than just the famous Windsor Castle.
Whilst you are in Windsor, your luggage is held by the transport company which is based in Windsor. As a result you do not pay for waiting time, it\’s a flat fee no matter how long you stay in Windsor.
You just stipulate what time you want to be picked up from Windsor.
Heathrow is about 15 minutes drive from Windsor. Gatwick Airport about 60 minutes and Central London about 45 minutes.Stonehenge is 75 minutes from Windsor.
For kiddies, LEGOLAND is at Windsor too.
