Harry Potter Platform 9 3/4 Experience At Kings Cross Railway Station
Author: Bob Handford
The transformation of the district around London’s Kings Cross and St Pancras Station continues including the stations themselves.
Kings Cross Station is of course the departure point for students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, of which it’s most famous student, Harry Potter, attends. The Hogwarts Express departs from Platform 9 3/4′s in September.
So the first day in September 2013 I went along to take a look.
Kings Cross is of course a real place, a major train station in London with fast trains to Scotland every 30 minutes or so among the many train services available.
Last time I went there to check out platform 9 3/4 it was just very low key, the station authorities had entered into the spirit of things by providing a DIY photo opportunity which the occasional giggling schoolgirl took advantage off.
Now Platform 9 3/4 has been turned into a commercial attraction, with queues of people waiting to get their picture taken and visit the Harry Potter gift shop next to Platform 9 3/4.
The same photo opportunity is there as before, a luggage trolley immersed into a brick wall entering Platform 9 3/4, (see image above).
Now there is a professional photographer and an assistant to help you get the best possible photo, complete with Harry Potter scarf.
Images speak louder than words, the video below gives you a good flavour of what to expect.
The small Harry Potter gift shop with all things Harry Potter and much Platform 9 3/4 merchandise completes the picture.
