The Best Heathrow Hotels For Terminals 2 & 3

Make an informed choice from over 30 Heathrow hotels that are convenient for Terminals 2 or 3

Sheraton Skyline Hotel Heathrow Airport

Sheraton Skyline Hotel Heathrow Airport On Bath Road

Perhaps the first point that should be made for those looking for a Heathrow airport hotel using Terminals 2 or 3 is there is no hotel that you can walk to from either of these passenger terminals. You will need transport of some kind.

None of the mainstream Heathrow airport hotels at any passenger terminal are allowed to run complementary shuttles either.

There are over 30 mainstream airport hotels around the airport perimeter catering for all budgets.

Heathrow Airport is a very large airport, it can take 15 minutes or more to drive from Terminal 2 to Terminal 4 for instance.

Terminals 2 and 3 are together in the centre of the airport between the runways, Terminal 5 is on the airport perimeter at the western edge of the airport, Terminal 4 on the perimeter on the southern edge of the airport.

Heathrow Airport hotel choices are dominated by the large global chains, many of which have several hotels each serving particular passenger terminals. Many of the hotels have a passenger terminal in their name, this doesn't mean they are at that terminal. Hotels can be located a long way from the terminal in their name, it is just the name of the passenger terminal they are most convenient for.

Hotel Transfers From Terminals 2 & 3

As there are no complementary hotel van shuttles allowed, the airport authority runs their own hotel buses called Hoppa Buses. There are many Hotel Hoppa bus routes. Each route services 3 or 4 hotels that are close to one another on the edge of the airport at frequencies commonly between 15 and 30 minutes. There is a flat fee that is the same for every Heathrow hotel whatever the distance from the passenger terminals.

For the length of journey the fare is quite expensive and if you are using a budget hotel can form a significant proportion of the overall cost of your hotel stay.

Heathrow Hoppa Bus

Heathrow Hoppa Bus

The only practical alternative for a Heathrow hotel from Terminals 2 or 3 are public red London buses. For the closest hotels to Terminals 2 and 3 along the Bath Road you can use these free of charge. The London buses run 24x7 on many of the routes and frequencies are higher than the Hoppa Buses.

The big downside of the bus is that unlike the Hotel Hoppa buses that pick up directly outside the arrivals hall at Terminals 2 and 3, the London buses depart from the Central Bus Station, a 5/10 walk from both terminal 2 and terminal 3. (Though along underground moving walkways shielded from the weather). The buses are also just normal public buses with minimal room for luggage storage, a problem if you are travelling heavy.

Beware Of Hidden Charges Beyond The Headline Hotel Room Price

Know What To Look For So Your Total Outlay Ends Up Within Your Budget

A lot of people make their purchasing decision based purely on the headline price of the room. This can be a big mistake at Heathrow where add-on's you can avoid if you are smart can easily be far more than the room price - especially at the weekends when hotels offer very attractive headline deals when the free spending business people are away.

- Check the room price includes sales tax (currently 20% in the UK)

- Factor in the cost of getting to and from the hotel. If your hotel is not on the Bath Road the Hoppa Bus that becomes almost mandatory can be a significant cost. From a Bath Road hotel you have the option of a free public bus

- Eating and drinking at the airport hotels can be eye watering in terms of prices. A meal for two can turn out to be more than the cost of your room that night. If your hotel is not on the Bath Road your hotel may well be isolated and as a result no escape from hotel prices.

- If you want to use the Internet check whether it is free or not. A lot of hotels still charge steeply for wifi to protect their pay TV/Movie revenues.

A Hotel On The Bath Road - The Best Hotel Location For Those Using Terminals 2 and 3.

As well as being geographically the closest hotels to Terminals 2 and 3, a hotel on the Bath Road has many facets that make hotels along the Bath Road THE place to look for your hotel if using Terminal 2 or 3.

London's red buses running along the Bath Road give you free or very cheap transport to Terminals 2 and 3. You also have the option of escaping your hotel situated on the Bath Road for food and drink. Especially if you are on a budget this gives you access to fast food, convenience stores and pubs as well as restaurants not tied to your hotel.

A detailed guide to the Bath Road locality around the hotels

Best Budget Hotels From Terminals 2 and 3.

If you are on a budget presumably you don't want to pay for the frills of a full service four star hotel. There are several very solid budget chain no frills hotels along the Bath Road. The benchmark hotels in this sector in my opinion should be the Ibis Heathrow and the Premier Inn Bath Road.

Premier Inn Bath Road Heathrow Airport London

Premier Inn Bath Road Heathrow

The Ibis hotel is the only budget hotel from the Central Bus Station at Heathrow with the free ride facility on London's buses. It is next door to the airport bowling alley which has a cafe and pubs are within easy walking distance. Cranford is 10 minutes walk one way with just about every type of fast food outlet you can think off plus convenience and neighbourhood stores for the local community. The Premier Inn Bath Road is a couple of bus stops further towards Cranford. Both hotels have reasonably priced restaurants (comparatively with other airport hotels).

If lowest cost is everything to you the Heathrow Lodge is normally the cheapest option on the airport. This is the only accommodation that offers a free shuttle to and from the passenger terminals. The Heathrow Lodge is in Longford that has a few pubs and a McDonalds about 10 minutes walk away.

The Mercure Hotel Heathrow regularly offers deep discounted rates, often some of the lowest available. The Mercure Hotel is one of the furthest hotels from the airport but is connected by a Hoppa bus. It is in a residential area with pubs and convenience stores a short walk away.

Best Full Service Hotels From Terminals 2 and 3.

If you require a full service hotel with room service and other frills then again the Bath Road is the most convenient location to be. If quality is your overriding requirement then four hotels all clustered together on the Bath Road should be on your short list, the Marriott Heathrow, Sheraton Skyline, Radisson Edwardian and Renaissance Hotels.

All of these hotels are very large and popular for hosting large conferences. The hotels are geared towards the business market, room rates drop significantly at the weekend when low room rates may tempt those who normally opt for a budget hotel.

If you have one eye on the wallet but still want some of the services of a four star hotel the Park Inn Heathrow, Heathrow Hotel, Leonardo Hotel and Holiday Inn Ariel are worth checking out.

All of the full service hotels at Heathrow have very volatile room rates. Price differentials between hotels change all the time on an almost daily basis.

Wanting To Go Sightseeing In Central London ?

The London Underground that offers a reasonable cost transport option between Heathrow and London takes the best part of an hour to get into Central London. Pay out the premium prices of the fast Heathrow Express train and the London terminus at Paddington is probably far from where you want to go in Central London.

From most Heathrow hotels you'll need to add on 20-30 minutes to get to the position where you are actually boarding the train from from your hotel.

There are hotels at Terminals 4 and 5, the Hilton Terminal 4 and the Sofitel Terminal 5 that have direct access to the train stations at these terminals. However these hotels are normally the most expensive on the airport. If you are arriving at Terminals 2 and 3 you can use the Heathrow Express train free of charge on the 5 minute journey to Terminals 4 or 5. Frequencies are every 15 minutes.

Hilton Garden Inn Hotel Heathrow Airport

Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow

For more reasonably priced hotels the Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow is a good choice, being less than 5 minutes walk from Hatton Cross Underground. The Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow is orientated towards passengers using terminals 4 or 5, the Hoppa Bus from Terminals 2 and 3 is not frequent and with black out periods where it doesn't run at all. You can get the Underground one stop from Terminals 2 and 3 to Hatton Cross then walk or the 285 bus will take you free from the Central Bus Station to Hatton Cross Underground

The St Giles Hotel at Feltham is another hotel convenient for getting into London, located next to Feltham Station with very frequent commuter trains, much faster than the Underground. It is a little way from the airport and the only scheduled transport is the 285 bus that runs 24x7 about every 10 minutes from the Central Bus Station at Heathrow. The St Giles is normally one of the cheaper hotels at Heathrow.

Of the hotels more convenient for Terminals 2 and 3 the DoubleTree Hilton Heathrow, Travelodge Heathrow Central and the Premier Inn Bath Road at the Cranford end of the Bath Road have local red London buses passing their doors every few minutes going to Hounslow West Underground Station nearby. You can buy a 1 day Travelcard in a local convenience store that will cover both bus and the Underground transport required.

Overnight In Paddington in Central London

The Heathrow Express From Paddington Gets You To Check In Faster Than From Many Airport Hotels

The Heathrow Express Train takes just 15 minutes between Heathrow Central Station and Paddington in Central London. This is about the same time that hotel shuttle buses take to get to most airport hotels. The Heathrow Express is also at least as frequent as the hotel shuttles, more frequent than most.

If seeing a little of London is important to you then why not stay overnight at a hotel around Paddington Station instead of at Heathrow.
