The two ways of coming to Dover from London by public transport are the Dover railway lines from London's Victoria, London Bridge, St Pancras or Charing Cross Stations or the cheaper, slower Dover National Express coaches from London Victoria.
The fastest way to travel between Dover and London is by train. Rail is often faster than hiring a private car into or out of Central London. The bus service is much slower than trains and less frequent but can also be much, much cheaper.
Dover Cruise terminal is about 75 miles from Central London. Heathrow Airport is the other (west) side of London from Dover, about another 10 miles further. By public transport you cannot go direct from Dover to any of London's airports, you have to travel into Central London and make the journey out to the airport as a separate journey.
Private vehicles from Dover to the airports of London are much, much quicker than public transport because they can bypass London altogether, unlike public transport. This is especially true of Heathrow where the main rail lines from Heathrow and Dover have their London termini at different railway stations in London, requiring a tedious additional transfer between them.
Hiring a private vehicle, whether a car or a full size bus or something in between takes the hassle out of the journey, especially the tedious local connections at either end.
