From
London, the most popular day tours cover 3 distinct regions.
To the west of London, the main attractions are Windsor, Stonehenge
and Bath. These three combined offer a whistletop tour of the most
popular visitor attractions in the area.
Stonehenge is commonly visited by all tours staying only about 45-60
minutes, all that is required.
Georgian Bath, a lot of people could spend a long weekend at. Most
day tours only stay around two hours, commonly including entrance
to the Roman Baths. But you get the time to absorb the atmosphere
of the Georgian architecture, much the same as when Jane Austen lived
here.
Windsor is a place many people will spend a long day. Tours again
mostly focus on a tour of the castle taking around 90 minutes with
a small amount of time in the Old Town. A drive through nearby Runnymede
where the Magna Carta was signed is normal when visiting Windsor.
The other popular stops in the area include Salisbury, an interesting
medieval town, where a visit to the Cathedral provides viewing of
one of the original copies of the Magna Carta. |
Avebury
is a small village within a large henge, larger than Stonehenge about
30 minutes away. Unlike Stonehenge you can walk among and touch the
stones here.
Lacock is a village about 30 minutes from Bath. Its main attraction
is that although very much a normal village, all the buildings are
are at least a couple of hundred years old. Many films have been shot
here like Harry Potter and Jane Austen recreating the England a century
or two ago.
North west of London are the Cotswolds, imagine a scene of the English
Countryside complete with thatched cottages, chocolate box villages
and you're probably imagining the Cotswolds. On the edges of the Cotswolds
are Oxford, Blenheim Palace, Stratford upon Avon and Warwick.
Oxford is a university town where tours normally take the form of
a walking tour focussing on the historic university colleges.
Nearby Blenheim Palace is a world heritage site set in 2100 acres
of beautiful parkland landscaped by Capability Brown,
the exquisite Baroque Palace is surrounded by sweeping lawns, formal
gardens and the magnificent Lake. You can also visit the palace, birthplace
of Winston Churchill.
Stratford upon Avon is the birthplace of Shakespeare and much of what
is to see revolves around Shakespeare.
Nearby Warwick Castle is one of the most popular castles to visit
in England.
To the south east of London, the main attractions are Leeds Castle
dubbed the most beautiful castle and Canterbury. Many tours will also
visit Dover, by the sea. |
