The familiar London black taxis are not available at Gatwick as the airport is too far outside London. A company called Checker Cars are the designated 'official' taxi operator at the airport operating cars into London. Other companies are available but you have to prebook these before travelling.

A taxi transfer from Stansted to Central London is not very popular with passengers. The airport is nearly 40 miles from Central London, with transfers taking 80 minutes, often much, much more.
Most people prefer to take the Stansted Express train to Liverpool Street Station in London, reliably taking just 45 minutes, then taking a taxi. There are also many, much cheaper bus services into London from Stansted.
