Cheap Backpackers Accommodation In London's Kensington and Victoria Districts

London Hostel Dormitory

Backpacker hostels in London are spread across London. On this page we look at those just to the west of the centre, in and around Kensington, the most affluent area of London with a per capita income larger than any county in the US even.

The original traditional area for backpacker hostels was Earls Court Kensington. This is still one of the major budget accommodation districts in London. Shops and services are very much geared towards the budget traveller, there is good public transport links and if you are flying into Heathrow, cheap, fast and frequent underground trains run every 5 minutes.

Within sight of the front entrance of Earls Court Underground on Earls Court Road you will see most of the global fast food chains, including McDonalds, KFC, Starbucks and independent bakeries and such like. For the budget traveller all the basics are here with launderettes, pubs and small supermarkets available. Some of the pubs do very good value breakfasts as well as traditional pub grub in the evening.

The Kensington area is safe within the normal common-sense precautions applicable the world over. The Underground runs until around midnight and that too is safe to ride late at night.

The further east you go in Kensington the more upmarket becomes culminating in the Knightsbridge area, famous as the site of Harrods department store and the start of the most exclusive property districts in Central London. South and south-east of Knightsbridge you come into Chelsea, Victoria and Pimlico. Pimlico is just south of Victoria in a major budget hotel area of London.

Victoria is also one of the best places for transport links. There are direct airport links to all four of London's major airports and train services to Dover ferry port. London's only coach station is here, the cheapest way of travelling around England and to Europe.

Victoria is also a major transport hub for getting around Central London with 3 Underground lines and countless bus routes that will get you to most places in Central London you want to visit within 15 or 20 minutes.
