The Best Heathrow Hotels At Terminals 4

Make an informed choice from over 30 Heathrow hotels that are convenient for Terminals 4

Hilton Hotel Terminal 4 Heathrow Airport

Hilton Hotel Terminal 4 Heathrow Airport

The first point that should be made for those looking for a Heathrow airport hotel when using terminal 4 is there is only one mainstream hotel, the Hilton Terminal 4 Heathrow that you can walk to from terminal 4. The Hilton Terminal 4 is connected by walkway directly between hotel and terminal.

There is also a Japanese style capsule/cabin hotel at Terminal 4 called the Yotel, ideal for single travellers with just a few hours between flights at terminal 4.

The Hilton Terminal 4 is reliably one of the most expensive hotels and for travellers with one eye on their wallet they will probably want to look elsewhere for their Heathrow accommodation. If price is not a big issue for you and quality and convenience is more important then if you are using terminal 4 the Hilton Terminal 4 is the benchmark hotel you should compare any other options against.

Heathrow Airport is a very large airport, and terminal 4 is isolated on the southern perimeter of the airport. The vast majority of airport hotels are on the northern side of the airport, it can take easily 10-15 minutes or more to drive from terminal 4 to Terminals 2 and 3 and the hotels on the north side of the airport.

Terminals 2 and 3 are together in the centre of the airport between the runways, Terminal 5 is on the airport perimeter at the western edge of the airport, Terminal 4 on the perimeter on the southern edge of the airport.

Heathrow Airport hotel choices are dominated by the large global chains, many of which have several hotels each serving particular passenger terminals.

Hotel Transfers From Terminals 4

As stated before, unless you book the Hilton Terminal 4 Heathrow you will need a bus transfer to your hotel.

There are no complementary hotel van shuttles allowed, the airport authority runs their own hotel buses called Hoppa Buses. There are many Hotel Hoppa bus routes. Each route services 3 or 4 hotels that are close to one another on the edge of the airport at frequencies commonly around every 30 minutes from terminal 4. There is a flat fee that is the same for every Heathrow hotel whatever the distance from the passenger terminals. Most of the Hoppa routes that service terminal 5 also service terminal 4 in addition.

Heathrow Hoppa Bus

For the length of journey the fare is quite expensive and if you are using a budget hotel can form a significant proportion of the overall cost of your hotel stay.

Heathrow Hoppa - More Details

The only practical alternative to a Hoppa Bus for a Heathrow hotel from Terminal 4, (apart from the Hilton Terminal 4) are public red London buses. The closest hotels to Terminal 4 by distance are the Travelodge Terminal 5 and Hilton Garden Inn, all other hotels being at least 2 or 3 miles or more from the terminal.

From outside terminal 4 arrivals the 490 red London bus connects terminal 5 with terminal 4 and then goes onto Hatton Cross Underground Station. The fare is free to Hatton Cross and Terminal 5. The Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow is a five minute walk from Hatton Cross Underground Station.

Also from underneath Terminal 4 there is a Heathrow Express shuttle train. This runs every 15 minutes and will take you in 5 minutes free of charge to the centre of the airport where Terminals 2 and 3 are located. In terms of avoiding using the Hoppa Buses to get to many of the best value hotels on the airport the options are much better here though it will probably add 20-30 minutes to your hotel transfer time. Beware Of Hidden Charges Beyond The Headline Hotel Room Price

Know What To Look For So Your Total Outlay Ends Up Within Your Budget

A lot of people make their purchasing decision based purely on the headline price of the room. This can be a big mistake at Heathrow where add-on's you can avoid if you are smart can easily be far more than the room price - especially at the weekends when hotels offer very attractive headline deals when the free spending business people are away.

- Check the room price includes sales tax (currently 20% in the UK)

- Factor in the cost of getting to and from the hotel. The Hoppa Bus hotel link that can be a significant cost if you are on a budget.

- Eating and drinking at the airport hotels can be eye watering in terms of prices. A meal for two can turn out to be more than the cost of your room that night. If your hotel is isolated as many are, you may have limited opportunity to escape from hotel prices for food and drink.

- If you want to use the Internet check whether it is free or not. A lot of hotels still charge steeply for wifi to protect their pay TV/Movie revenues.

The Best Hotels For Those Using Terminal 4

Heathrow Airports Transfers & Logistics

If you are using terminal 4, for convenience the Hilton Terminal 4 is head and shoulders above other options. For most people the only reason not to use the Hilton Terminal 4 is price. (Note that there are two Hilton hotels at Heathrow - the other is Hilton Terminal 5 Heathrow - but it is not very near terminal 5).

After the Hilton Terminal 4 the next closest is the Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow, a well received mid-range hotel about a mile from terminal 4. It has a Hoppa Bus link or you can get red London buses from terminal 4 to Hatton Cross Underground Station free of charge. You can walk to the Hilton Garden Inn in 5 minutes from the Underground Station.

The Travelodge Terminal 5 is next closest and is a recent build, low cost budget chain hotel. It normally has some of the cheapest advance purchase room rates on the airport. It is isolated though and the Hoppa Bus is effectively your sole link to the outside world.

The St Giles Hotel is not connected to terminal 4 by Hoppa bus but is connected by the cheap and frequent 490 red London bus. This takes about 20 minutes from outside terminal 4 arrivals to Feltham railway station beside which the hotel is located. In addition to the good value room rates you have a neighbourhood shopping centre and a supermarket opposite at local prices.

If you take the Hoppa Bus, the best area for a hotel in my opinion is the eastern section of the Bath Road over the other side of the airport from terminal 4.

Especially if you are on a budget this gives you the flexibility to escape the hotel to fast food, convenience stores and pubs as well as restaurants not tied to your hotel.

If you are looking at the full service, quality end of the market the Marriott Heathrow, Sheraton Skyline, Radisson Edwardian and Renaissance Hotels all offer a good alternative to the Hilton Terminal 4 at a lower price.

Best Budget Hotels From Terminal 4.

If you are on a budget presumably you don't want to pay for the frills of a full service four star hotel like the Hilton Terminal 4 at terminal 4 itself. The closest budget hotels to Terminal 4 are the Travelodge Terminal 5 and Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow, all other hotels being at least 2 or 3 miles or more from the terminal. The Travelodge Terminal 5 will have much lower prices, the Hilton Garden Inn is for most people going to be of much better quality.

St Giles Hotel

St Giles Hotel

The St Giles Hotel is not connected to terminal 4 by Hoppa bus but is connected by the cheap and frequent 490 red London bus. This takes about 20 minutes from outside terminal 4 arrivals to Feltham railway station beside which the hotel is located. In addition to the good value room rates you have a neighbourhood shopping centre and a supermarket opposite at local prices.

If lowest cost is everything to you the Heathrow Lodge is normally the cheapest option on the airport. This is the only accommodation that offers a free shuttle to and from the passenger terminals. The Heathrow Lodge is in Longford that has a few pubs and a McDonalds about 10 minutes walk away.

If you are comfortable using the Hoppa Bus check out the Ibis Heathrow and the Premier Inn Bath Road. They are both solid hotels and are always competitively priced and sometimes have promotional bargains. Both have good access to facilities outside the hotel too.

Best Full Service Hotels From Terminals 4.

If you require a full service hotel with room service and other frills then the Hilton Terminal 4 itself is hard to beat for combining quality with convenience. If quality is your overriding requirement but you want an alternative to the Hilton, possibly much cheaper, then four hotels all clustered together on the Bath Road should be on your short list, the Marriott Heathrow, Sheraton Skyline, Radisson Edwardian and Renaissance Hotels. All have Hoppa bus connections.

All of these hotels are very large and popular for hosting large conferences. The hotels are geared towards the business market, room rates drop significantly at the weekend when they may tempt those who normally opt for a budget hotel.

If you have one eye on the wallet but still want some of the services of a four star hotel the DoubleTree Hilton Heathrow, Heathrow Hotel and Sheraton Hotels are worth checking out.

All of the full service hotels at Heathrow have very volatile room rates. Price differentials between hotels change all the time on an almost daily basis.

Wanting To Go Sightseeing In Central London ?

The London Underground that offers a reasonable cost transport option takes best part of an hour to get into Central London. Pay out the premium prices of the fast Heathrow Express train and the London terminus is probably far from where you want to go in Central London.

Hilton Garden Inn Hotel Heathrow Airport

Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow

From most Heathrow hotels you'll need to add on 20-30 minutes to get to the position where you are actually boarding the train into London from your hotel.

The notable exception to this is at Terminals 4 and 5, the Hilton Terminal 4 and the Sofitel Terminal 5 that have direct access to the train stations at these terminals. However these hotels are normally the most expensive on the airport.

For more reasonably priced hotels the Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow is a good choice, being less than 5 minutes walk from Hatton Cross Underground. The Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow is orientated towards passengers using terminals 4 or 5.

The St Giles Hotel at Feltham is another hotel convenient for getting into London, located next to Feltham Station with very frequent commuter trains, much faster than the Underground. The 490 red London bus connects terminal 4 with Feltham Station beside which the St Giles Hotel is located. (Though note this journey is not free you pay the standard red London bus flat fare).

Overnight In Paddington in Central London

The Heathrow Express From Paddington Gets You To Check In Faster Than From Many Airport Hotels

The Heathrow Express Train takes just 15 minutes between Heathrow Central Station, (25 minutes from Terminal 4 station) and Paddington in Central London. This is about the same time that hotel shuttle buses take to get to most airport hotels. The Heathrow Express is also at least as frequent as the hotels shuttles, more frequent than most.

If seeing a little of London is important to you then why not stay overnight at a hotel around Paddington Station instead of at Heathrow.
