Tour Itinerary:

The Leeds Castle, Dover, Canterbury and Greenwich day tour is a very varied tour with a lot packed into a busy day.

First stop is Leeds Castle where we are allowed access before Leeds Castle is opened to the public with our own private tour!. Leeds Castle although not the biggest castle in England is surely the prettiest with a fascinating history that stretches to modern times. Its then onto Dover where a lunch stop is taken and the famous white cliffs admired. From Dover its a short trip to Canterbury, the centre of Christian worship since it began in England. We explore the famous Cathedral and get glimpses of the medieval centre of of the city.

Last but not least we travel to Greenwich, famous for the meridian line but with a great naval and scientific heritage. We leave the touring coach for good here as after a short walking tour we take a river boat from Greenwich right into the heart of London taking around an hour. On the boat you take in many historic sights along the river, even travelling under Tower Bridge. The tour ends at Westminster Pier, right next to Big Ben.

Courtesy transfer from your hotel

Leeds Castle

A professional guide is aboard the luxury air-conditioned touring bus the entire day and will provide commentary and guiding throughout. Leeds Castle, the first stop on the tour is about 90 minutes journey south east of London. During that short time you would have heard about Leeds Castle its history and interesting snippets from your guide.

Leeds Castle

Leeds Castle

Leeds Castle opens to the public at 10:30 a.m. but we get in 30 minutes before and are taken on a private tour of the castle.

Described as the "loveliest castle in the world", Leeds Castle was once a Royal residence for six of Englands medieval queens, a palace of Henry VIII, and a retreat for the rich and powerful. The setting is simply idyllic.

The Norman castle was built on two small islands, in the middle of a lake, and is surrounded by a vast estate. Our day begins with a private viewing prior to the castle opening to the public. We will explore the chapel, galleries, courtyards and banqueting hall before taking time to enjoy the setting and wildlife, which includes wildfowl, black swans and the birds of the aviary.

Dover Lunch Stop

After about 90 minutes at Leeds Castle we make for our lunch stop in Dover. The normal place we stop is in Dover Town itself right in front of the beach. You can view the famous white cliffs from here with the historic Dover Castle sat on top of them overlooking the town. We stop for about an hour, you can take lunch here (not included in price) or explore Dover a little yourself independently.

Canterbury

Its now early afternoon as we climb out of Dover on the short trip to Canterbury.

Pulteney Bridge Bath

Canterbury Cathedral

The ancient city of Canterbury has been the centre of Christian worship for almost 1,700 years. Its greatest treasure is the cathedral, infamous as the setting for the brutal murder of Thomas Beckett in 1170. When Henry II snapped "Who will rid me of this turbulent priest?", four of his knights rode to the Cathedral and sliced Becketts head off. Canterbury became the centre of one of the most important medieval pilgrimages in Europe.

Your ticket includes entrance to the Cathedral and also allows some free time to explore the atmospheric old town.

Greenwich & River Cruise To Westminster

Its now late afternoon and another hour or so's drive to Greenwich where we should arrive around 5 p.m.

Packed with exquisite parks, gardens, and architecture, Greenwich has strong connections with the sea, science, sovereigns and time. We will have time to take a look at the Cutty Sark, the fastest sailing ship of its time.

As the early evening approaches we enjoy a river cruise back to the centre of London. We will pass by historic sights such as the Tower of London, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, before arriving at Westminster pier where our tour ends.

The estimated time of arrival back in London is 6:30 p.m. Westminster pier is next to Westminster Underground and Big Ben.

Morning Hotel Pick Ups

Like all day tours, time is the enemy and all tours leave early in the morning.

If you are still unclear where the best pick-up point is or you are coming from outside the centre we have a blog where on this linked page you can discuss one to one the best solution for you.
