National
Express coaches run direct, frequent coaches between all of London's
four major airports, including a Luton - Gatwick
Airport Bus.
Unlike all the other airport pairs the Luton to Gatwick run has
rail competition, and very stiff competition at that.
The First Capital
Connect Gatwick - Luton train service is both faster, and for
a single journey at least, cheaper than the National Express coach.
For return journeys the coach does work out cheap

However
the case for the rail link is compelling with more frequencies and
room to walk about than the coach.
The only downside of the First Capital Connect train is that Luton
Airport has no railway station. A tedious complimentary bus shuttle
runs the five minute journey from outside the passenger terminal at
Luton to Luton Parkway, the nearest train station.
Buses
& Departure Points
All coaches
scheduled to make the run have on board toilets.
At Luton there is a dedicated coach station in front of the terminal,
very well signposted.
At Gatwick the coach terminates at the South Terminal, but all coaches
drop off and pick up from the North Terminal. In each case there is
a special coach area in front of the passenger terminals which are
very easy to use. |
There
is a free monorail between the North and South Terminal at Gatwick
taking just a couple of minutes if you want to board at the starting
point of the coach at the South Terminal.
However this is not really necessary as all coaches will call in at
the North Terminal where there is a dedicated bus facility.
Luggage
Note that
luggage capacity is two medium sized suitcases weighing no more than
20kg each and one piece of hand luggage per person. The driver has
no apparatus to weigh the cases and at the end of the day its at the
discretion of the driver what goes on the bus.
Bicycles are carried at the discretion of the driver, as long as the
bicycle is properly packaged 'airline style' and there is sufficient
capacity in the hold.
