Trains nearly all stop at Birmingham, offering the fastest journey by train here too.
There are also some commuter trains to North London.
The Eurostar trains to Paris and beyond start at St Pancras Station about 600m down the Euston Road from Euston station.
The East Coast line to Scotland starts at Kings Cross Station about 800m from Euston down the Euston Road and offers a faster journey time to Scotland than from Euston.
Euston is pretty central, just two stops on the London Underground to Oxford Circus for example. The Circle Line Underground Station is at a physically separate station called Euston Square, about 100m west of Euston Station. There is a busy bus station at the front with London bus services to most of Central London.
Euston station is busy at all times of the day. Unlike many mainline stations there is not much commercial activity outside the station, however there is a comprehensive mix of services and shops to meet most travelers needs within the station.

| Euston Fast Food Court On Main Concourse |
On the concourse by the stairs down to the Underground Station is a London Transport information kiosk that is worth using if you need it. There are the normal services like newsagents and snack outlets as well as a pharmacy (Boots) and a Marks & Spencer Simply Food, small supermarket.
Left Luggage Euston Station
There is a left luggage facility at Euston station operated by the Excess Baggage Company - the company have their own web site. The office is open 7 days a week from 07:00 to 23:00. The facility is on the main concourse. Facing the train platforms, go to the platform furthest left, you will see the left luggage facility when you turn the corner behind the main ticket office.
The Excess Baggage Company have a monopoly of the left luggage facilities at most of London's main railway stations and airports. They can also ship items home if you require.
Purchasing Train Tickets
As a general rule of thumb for journeys of around an hour or so there is no financial advantage in pre purchasing, you may as well buy at the station on day of travel. For longer journeys, advance purchase fares offer great savings. The three types of tickets are broadly :
| Advance Purchase | Buy in advance, sold in limited numbers and subject to availability. These tickets are only valid on the date/train specified. |
| Off Peak | Buy any time, travel off-peak. these tickets may require you to travel at specific times of day, days of the week or on a specific route. Where there is more than one Off-Peak fare for a journey, the cheaper fare with more restrictions will be called Super Off-Peak. |
| Anytime | Buy any time, travel any time. Anytime fares are fully flexible tickets, with no time restrictions on when you can travel. With an Anytimeticket you can also break your journey at stations along the route of travel. |

| Advance Purchase Ticket Collection |
For longer distance trains, traveling by rail can be very expensive purchasing standard fares, often more expensive than flying. Advance purchase tickets on these longer distances on the other hand can be bargains.
For the overseas visitor this can present problems as there are with few exceptions no true etickets delivered by email at present. Tickets can be sent to UK addresses only. You can however order tickets on-line and pick up the tickets from machines at key mainline stations including Euston.

At train stations there are manned ticket offices and also ticket machines. All major credit cards are taken as well as cash.
For fares and timetables use 'The Trainline' web site.
You can purchase tickets at 'The Trainline' web site. Tickets are mailed to UK addresses only or you can opt to collect them from machines at main stations. You are sent a unique code which you enter into the machine which dispenses the tickets.
Note, most trains are only confirmed up to 3 months in advance. So if you search for a journey further ahead than 3 months you may well get an incomplete picture of available schedules and tickets.

Shops & Services Euston Station
There are a couple of pubs inside the station, including one on a balcony area overlooking the main concourse. This serves substantial food including Full English Breakfasts too. Much of the concourse is taken up by fast food and snack outlets, (see picture above).
There is a nice park area in front of the bus station (see picture right), out front.
There are ATM's, newsagents, a chemist and of course a large ticket office. There are also plenty of automatic ticket machines available too.
Euston District
For the visitor, there is very little of major interest in the immediate Euston station area. Unless you are staying in a hotel close by, most people will want to move on elsewhere. Unlike many city centre railway stations the area out front is not seedy, but is just very bland.
A main London road artery (Euston Road) surrounded by plain commercial buildings fronts the station. Every so often there is a typical English pub like that pictured right and there are a few small pleasant parks scattered around the place. Within walking distance towards Kings Cross there is the British Library.
South of Euston you soon come into the University area, before hitting Bloomsbury.
By the time you get to Bloomsbury you are on the fringes of the West End, the theatre and entertainment district of London.
