As a result hotel accommodation is largely geared to people visiting on business during the week. During the working week room rates are high, but at weekends and holidays there is some of the best value, quality hotels in London available here as the hoteliers try to fill the empty beds vacated by the businessmen.
Its worth noting that at the weekends the financial area is like a ghost town, a lot of businesses close down even. If you are a leisure traveler then the best place to look is probably down by the River Thames around Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.

In the last few years the no frills, budget chains have moved into the area is a big way. Ibis, Travelodge and now Premier Inn are well represented. Travelodge have three sites now in the City and if you can get a saver rate, especially likely at the weekend these are probably going to be the cheapest rooms.
The rest of the hotels near Liverpool Street are mostly full service 3 and 4 star chain hotels. Again rates during the working week can be almost double that at the weekend. At the weekend, the four star hotels around Liverpool Street can be some of the cheapest in Central London.
If you are a budget traveller, perhaps arrived on a cheap flight from Stansted you might want to check out the Kings Cross Bed and Breakfast hotels. Kings Cross / St Pancras is well connected to Liverpool Street by Underground and opposite Kings Cross Station are some of the best value cheap hotels in London.
