Both Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza brands are owned by Intercontinental Hotels. There are many sites spread across Central London and many, many more throughout the UK.

There is also the Express by Holiday Inn brand in Central London offering quality accommodation with less facilities than the main brands, consequently usually more economical.

The Crowne Plaza brand is more upmarket than Holiday Inn but doesn't always have higher room rates. For North American visitors, the Holiday Inn's in the UK are considered by many people to be more upmarket than their counterparts in North America.

Nearly all hotels in the Holiday inn and Crowne Plaza have cheaper rates at the weekend than midweek. The cheapest rates are 14 day advance purchase rates, there is also a 3 day advance purchase rate - both of which have cancellation charges. There is of course also the normal fully flexible rate.

In terms of location, the Crowne Plaza St James is arguably the best for the leisure visitor. Westminster, Big Ben and the London Eye are a few minutes walk and out the back is St James Park where you can walk across to Buckingham Palace, Whitehall or Trafalgar Square. The hotel is close to St James Underground and Victoria is also close. Victoria has dedicated airport buses to all four of London's main airports and an express rail link to Gatwick.

Close to the Crowne Plaza but not as central is the Express by Holiday Inn Victoria.
The other Crowne Plaza is the Crowne Plaza City on the fringes of the City of London close to St Paul's Cathedral and with the Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre on the opposite bank of the River Thames. If you are flying into Gatwick or Luton airports there are direct trains to these from Blackfriars Station opposite.

Of the Holiday Inn sites the Holiday Inn Mayfair has the most prestigious location in exclusive Mayfair just along the road from Piccadilly Circus and the West End one way and the main shopping district of London the other.

The Holiday Inn Oxford Circus is formally only a 3 star hotel but has a great position just off London's busiest shopping street - Oxford Circus. Another good central site is the Holiday Inn Bloomsbury, very close to the British Museum.

The other Holiday Inn sites are just outside the very centre. If you are flying into Heathrow, the Holiday Inn Kensington Forum and Holiday Inn Kensington are economical solutions that sit opposite one another. The Forum is a large new tower block, the Kensington a traditional building of only a few stories. Both hotels are next door to Gloucester Road Underground with direct trains to Heathrow every 5 minutes.
