The Shard isn’t only the tallest building in London, it’s the tallest in the whole of Western Europe. So essentially the proposition is a very simple one.
Ride a fast lift to the top floors (69 to 72) and take in breathtaking 360-degree views of England’s capital that stretches to 40 miles (64km) on a clear day.
Construction on the Shard started in May 2009 and the external completion was marked in July 2012, just in time for the London Olympics.
The viewing gallery for The Shard opened in February 2013 making it one of the newest major attraction in London.
The viewing gallery and observation deck on the 72nd floor is highest habitable floor of the 82 floors built. If you were wondering, the rest of the building is to be let out as office space, (the City of London financial area is close by) and there is also a 5 star hotel and some shops.
The location is very near London Bridge Station and Borough market. The other main attraction offering views is of course the London Eye, quite a long way to the west of the Shard - so two very different views as well as experiences.
Famous sites close to the Shard include Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, the Gherkin, St Paul's Cathedral and of course further away the London Eye itself.
On entering the building high-speed lifts whisk you to 'The View,' located at the top of The Shard on floors 68, 69 and 72. Here, you take in unobstructed views of London's best sites.
Interactive telescopes in 11 languages enable you to get background information on what you are seeing, as well as get an understanding of London's past, present and future like you’ve never experienced them before.
Level 72, where the top of the building opens to the sky, offers you unbeatable 360-degree views.
The View from The Shard is open to visitors on selected days of the week (currently closed on Monday and Tuesday). Opening dates and times do vary, with earlier opening times and closing times in Winter and later opening and closing times in Summer. So please do check when booking your tickets.
The Shard is located on the south bank of the river close to London Bridge Railway and Underground Station. Close by is Borough Market a very popular food market and within walking distance major attractions include The Monument, HMS Belfast, Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.
London Bridge Underground Station (Northern and Jubilee Lines) is adjacent to London Bridge Station, which is also a major Railway Station with services.
All of London's hop on, hop off sightseeing buses stop in the vicinity of London Bridge and The Shard.
The ticketing model is straight forward with concessions for children and students but not seniors.
Entrance times are defined with 30 minute slots from opening to closing time with exact entrance time stated on the ticket confirmation. Once inside the attraction there is no time limit on your dwell time in the attraction within our advertised opening hours.
In the unlikely event that you can't see at least three of the following landmarks - London Eye, St Paul’s Cathedral, The Gherkin, Tower Bridge and One Canada Square on the day of your visit, each member of your party is entitled to a ticket to return for free within three months. You need to approach the ticket desk on the day.
All tickets include the option of complimentary hire of The View from The Shard multimedia guide to accompany your visit.
Book your first visit between 10am and 6pm, then return to see London sparkle at night! A minimum of a three hour gap must be left between your visits. Both experiences need to be taken on the same day.
The Original London Tour as its name implies is the original hop-on hop-off London sightseeing bus service. The hop-on, hop off sightseeing buses are an excellent first day in London quickly getting you up to speed and orientated with the layout of London and your guide pointing out sights and destinations you might have not previously considered visiting.
But most visitors to London will have their own "must see" list of attractions. So why not save some money and purchase your hop-on, hop-off sightseeing bus tickets and your "must see" attractions as a package? You don't have to use the attraction tickets on the day you use the sightseeing bus either. Madame Tussauds, The London Eye, London Dungeon, London Aquarium, St Paul’s Cathedral, Kensington Palace and Tower of London are all available.
Combine attraction tickets with hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus package
