Salisbury
is a bit of a rail hub with main lines and frequent trains going east
to London, south to Southampton and west to Bath and Bristol.
Salisbury's main role for visitors is as a gateway town to Stonehenge
about 10 miles north. There is now a Stonehenge Tour Bus that picks
up from Salisbury Station and goes to Stonehenge and Old
Sarum in a loop before returning to Salisbury itself. |

The
train station is 5/10 minutes walk from the Cathedral and Salisbury
city centre where the shops and market are. Unfortunately there is
no left luggage facilities at Salisbury Station.
Salisbury also has quite a good regional public bus network going
to town such as Bournemouth, Blandford Forum and Southampton. National

The
Stonehenge Tour
Bus
The Stonehenge Tour Bus is the only regular public transport to Stonehenge
itself. It normally runs at least hourly and more frequently in the
summer months. The Stonehenge Tour Bus also allows you to stop over
at Old Sarum,
which is worthwhile.
The journey itself is quite scenic.
The Stonehenge Bus starts from Salisbury Rail Station and also picks
up at the Bus Station. |
