Tour Itinerary:

The Stonehenge, Bath, & Stratford day tour is a long but rewarding day where you certainly clock up some mileage.

Our first stop is the magnificent Stonehenge, a World Heritage Site and one of the most famous prehistoric monuments in the world. Next we journey on to Bath - another World Heritage Site and a delightful Georgian city with something of interest for everyone, you will have free time after an introductory tour. Between Bath and Stratford Upon Avon you can enjoy some very scenic driving through the Cotswolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with open countryside criss-crossed by dry stone walls and bustling market towns. Finally we arrive at Stratford Upon Avon, a pretty town on the River Avon and a living museum to Shakespeare; it is here that he was born and was buried. We will enjoy a champagne reception at the Shakespeare Museum.

A professional guide is aboard the luxury air-conditioned touring bus the entire day and will provide commentary and guiding throughout.

(Note: Between October to April we visit Stonehenge first thing in the morning and Stratford at the end of the day. Between April and mid October the tour is normally reversed, visiting Stratford in the morning and Stonehenge last.)

If you wish you can join the tour at Victoria Coach Station, which is about 600 yards from Victoria Underground and Train Station.

Stonehenge Visitor Centre

Outdoor Exhibit At Stonehenge Exhibition At Visitor Centre

This ancient neolithic site, over 5000 years' old offers a fascinating glimpse into our ancestors' past. The ring of stones still poses many archaeological and historical questions for academics and visitors alike. An audioguide (in ten different languages), is included in the price and will inspire you with information surrounding Stonehenge, examining many different theories as to how and why the henge was built. A phenomenal feat of engineering, each stone weighing many tonnes, it is fascinating to admire the spirit of cooperation needed to build something at such an early time in history, with such primitive tools.

You will get to see the long path, with raised banks and ditches, known as the 'avenue'; a processional route stretching about three miles or two kilometres, marking the the entrance to Stonehenge. From this point you can learn about how our ancestors understood the turning of the year, and the importance of aligning with the sun.

The visitor centre, a mile from the stones themselves, is well worth finding time to see. It displays nearly 250 archaeological treasures, which were used or buried at Stonehenge as well a regularly changing programme of special exhibitions. In addition, reconstructed neolithic houses outside the visitor centre, provide living history with regular demonstrations of ancient domestic skills such as flint knapping, and rope making.

A gift shop offers an extensive range of books, gifts and souvenirs, many made in the UK exclusively for Stonehenge.

A 110-seater counter service café serves hot and cold drinks, soup, sandwiches, cakes, salads and other sweet and savoury delicacies.

Stonehenge - More About

Pulteney Bridge Bath

Pulteney Bridge Bath

We spend around 90 minutes in Bath, time for a panoramic tour and some lunch from a wide choice of outlets in the centre of Bath. You might wish to try the Pump Room Restaurant, at the Roman Baths, where you can try the famous hot spa water for yourself.

Bath is a beautiful Georgian city with delightful crescents, terraces and architecture. Following our guided tour of the city, there will be time to explore at your leisure. The most popular single attraction are the Roman Baths that were built nearly 2,000 years ago, on the site of Britain's only natural warm spring. Well worth visiting, it is your choice whether to spend your ninety minutes here; the ticket for this is not included in the price, but you could purchase separately on entering.

Alternatively you could choose simply to soak up the sights such as Bath Abbey with its magnificent early Gothic architecture and the famous Pulteney Bridge - one of only four in the world with shops -running over the river Avon as it cascades over the weir. There is also the Assembly Rooms, one of Bath's finest Georgian buildings, and the Jane Austen Centre, a must see for Austen lovers.

Garden of Shakespeare's Birthplace

Garden of Shakespeare's Birthplace

Stratford Upon Avon and Shakespeare's Birthplace

In Stratford you will have about an hour to visit the home of one of the most famous writers of all time, William Shakespeare. Stratford Upon Avon is a charming market town set in the heart of rural England. A delightful river winds its way through the town, past the beautiful Holy Trinity church where Shakespeare lies buried.

Our tour includes an exclusive visit to Shakespeare's Birthplace, a half-timbered

house, where Shakespeare and his brothers and sisters were born and brought up. Furnished in period style, with rare artefacts on display and costumed guides, as well as up to date exhibitions, Shakespeare's Birthplace really does bring to life the extraordinary story of this internationally famous man. Outside you will be able to relax in the celebration garden, and enjoy Champagne and Strawberry scones.
