Salisbury Day Tours From London

Two Day Tours From London Offering 3 Very Different Experiences

Salisbury Cathedral Interior

Salisbury Cathedral

Salisbury is the closest major town or city to Stonehenge, about 10 miles north of it. Apart from acting as a gateway town for independent tourists wanting to go to Stonehenge, Salisbury is very rewarding in its own right.

Salisbury Cathedral is one of England's finest cathedrals and its biggest single attraction. The Close within which it stands is very impressive as well. The Cathedral is particularly popular with visitors from the USA with an original Magna Carta document proudly on display.

Salisbury as a tour destination from London doesn't offer the biggest choice, only two tours regularly visit Salisbury every week of the year.

The most popular tour is a tour that visits Salisbury as the first stop out of London and goes onto Stonehenge and Bath.

The other tour is a small group tour in a 16 seat bus that is the only tour to visit Old Sarum, Old Salisbury that preceded the current modern Salisbury built in the 13th Century around the cathedral. This tour also visits Stonehenge and Avebury, another Neolithic henge and monument with an ancient Britain theme. This tour takes full advantage of the small bus size to venture through some very attractive English countryside where the big tour buses cannot go.

Salisbury, Stonehenge and Bath Tour

The Salisbury, Stonehenge and Bath day tour visits three very different attractions to the west of London offering a varied and fascinating long but rewarding day.

First stop is Stonehenge, where you have fast track entry into this prehistoric wonder, and are also treated to a ten minute private talk as well as a picnic lunch in the on site cafe'.

Following Stonehenge you journey onto Salisbury, visiting Salisbury Cathedral, where you can see the famous Magna Carta.

Finally you travel onto Georgian Bath, with a panoramic tour of this magnificent city, followed by free time to explore.

Small Group Salisbury, Stonehenge & Avebury Tour

The Salisbury, Stonehenge & Avebury tour from London has an ancient Britain, theme the most recent attractions viewed dating back to the 13th Century

Its a busy schedule but all of the places visited are within 20 miles of each other. The first part of the tour is the “modern” part of the tour around Salisbury. We first visit Old Sarum, the old hill fort that was Salisbury before modern Salisbury down in the river valley below built in the 13th Century.

The morning is spent first at Old Sarum, then down to Salisbury Cathedral, one of England's finest with an original Magna Carta to view. After lunch we travel up the idyllic Woodford Valley, the English Countryside to the world famous Stonehenge. Late afternoon we have moved onto Avebury, another Neolithic monument much less well known that Stonehenge but just as memorable. Without the crowds at Stonehenge, Avebury is much more hands on, you can walk among and touch the stones and also go inside a burial chamber.

The small bus used also comes into its own on this tour as we use narrow lanes not used by the big tour buses.
