Travel Lodges at Heathrow offer clean, modern, no nonsense accommodation with familiar brand names.

Travel Lodge in the UK is a term frequently use to describe no frills budget chain hotels without facilities like 24 hour room service, gymnasiums, large lounges and a la carte restaurants of the full service hotels. The leading chains in the UK for this sector are Travelodge and Premier Inn. Travelodge is the cheap one, Premier Inn has a reputation for more quality with a price premium.

Standards of cleanliness are normally high and bathrooms are what you would expect from a 3 star hotel. In the UK stars are awarded for services provided, not their quality so Travel Lodge chains tend not to even apply for a star rating.

The two leading chains Travelodge and Premier Inn both have two hotels serving Heathrow Airport. Other chains that offer the same no frills offering include easyHotel and the French Ibis hotel chain.

Travelodge Heathrow

Travelodge now have two airport hotels at Heathrow. Heathrow Central is geared to passengers using Terminals 1,3 and 4. Heathrow Terminal 5 for Terminal 5.

Travelodge Terminal 5 is quite isolated by the M25 motorway but has a reasonable bar/cafe.

Travelodge Central is not as Central as its name perhaps indicates. It is to the east of the airport (see map bottom of page) in a residential area with neighbourhood shops and pubs.

Both Travelodge hotels are serviced by the Hoppa Bus shuttles that all mainstream hotels at Heathrow use to transfer customers to and from the passenger terminals. Travelodge Central also has the option of using cheaper local buses.

Premier Inn Heathrow

Premier Inn is currently the largest no frills budget chain in the UK and have a good reputation.

There are two Premier Inn's at Heathrow.

The M4/J4 site is best suited to motorists as it is relatively isolated by the motorway junction of the Heathrow Airport spur of the M4 motorway.

The Premier Inn (Bath Road) is the largest of the two (pictured right) and has frequent public buses passing the front door, including buses to Heathrow as well as the official Heathrow Hoppa shuttles. The Premier Inn Bath Road is also within a few minutes walks of a wide range of pubs, restaurants, even a small Tesco supermarket.

Again both Premier Inn properties have Hoppa Buses to the airport passenger terminals

easyHotel Heathrow Room

easyHotel Heathrow

easyHotel take the no frills ethos to the limit. Normally the easyHotel will be the cheapest overnight room at an airport hotel, if there are no special saver rates at either of the Travelodges.

However the cheapest rooms have no windows and things like a TV are optional extras that have a charge not covered by the room rate.

easyHotel is located to the north east of the airport and has a Heathrow Hoppa service to terminals 1 and 3 as well as its own taxi service.

Ibis Heathrow

The Ibis Hotel Heathrow is situated on the Bath Road, the northern perimeter road where most of the hotels are situated.

The Ibis often has promotional rates, especially at the weekend.

The Ibis Heathrow has quite a good position, especially good for Terminals 1 and 3. You have access to some restaurants, pubs and services within a short walk as an alternative to the hotel.

There is an excellent choice of local buses operating every couple of minutes from outside the hotel to local towns. The buses can also be used as a free transfer to the passenger terminals as an alternative to the 'official' Hoppa Bus service which is not complementary and comes at a full price.

The Ibis has its own restaurant and next to the Ibis Heathrow is the airport bowling alley with a fast food concession and bar and a few pubs are also within easy walking distance.
